Hey, I'll be in the Chicago/Milwaukee area in March, and was wondering what I absolutely *must* do out there (I'm from California). My time is extremely limited (probably only one full day in Chicago), so what shouldn't I miss? Things that sounded interesting were the Field Museum of Natural History (dinosaurs), Shedd Aquarium, Oriental Institute (mummies), Art Institute of Chicago, and Threadless (naturally). Any opinions on these? Anything big I'm missing?

Any info would be great! Thanks!

Okay, is there anything interesting to do in Milwaukee besides try various beers? That's where I'll be most of the time.

Bummer. Neither me nor my friend are big sports nuts. I heard there's something called a butter burger that people insist I have to try. Probably spend a large portion of my time sampling midwestern foods. :)

I just got back from Chicago and I loved the Art Institute but be careful if your on limited time. Choose only the exhibits you want to see and stick to it, because you can easily spend a half a day in there. Field Museum was fun and interesting, but again time consuming, just be prepared to rush through things.

I didn't get to go to the Aquarium but my BF went on his second trip and loved it. I saw pictures and they were great.

Definitely get some Chicago style pizza from Gino's East or Giordanos very tasty stuff.

Definitely will get a Chicago dog. My friend also said German food is really good out in Milwaukee, so a brat would be good. Deep dish pizza also would be a plus, if I can fit it in.

Argh, but the summers are so muggy out there.

I'm hungry, too. All this food talk...

I think we're going to do the Field Museum for our big museum trip. And maybe the aquarium, since they're in the same area (I think). Threadless. And maybe Chinatown. And Greek food. That should be plenty for Chicago.

Milwaukee... I think we might go see the Sprecher factory, eat brats, and check out the art museum. Maybe check out something called the Cheese Castle.

Thank you for all your comments!

Mexican Museum of Fine Art. You could go hang out in Wicker Park and hipster-watch. The Heartland Cafe in Rogers Park. Simon's Tavern in Andersonville or check out Hopleaf Tavern - about five bazillion beers from around the world and some of the best "bar food" around (steamed mussles, etc. It's now called a "gastropub"). Second City has a free improv set after the main show on every day but Friday. The Improv Olympics (IO) has cheap shows ($5); some are funny, some are duds. Millenium Park. Pick up a copy of Time Out Chicago and look for art gallery openings. usually they're open to anyone with free booze and food. Who cares if the art sucks?

Oh, yeah the Mars Cheese Castle. It's not in Milwaukee but on the way. Great place. Enough cheese and sausage in every form imaginable that will clog your arteries and keep them clogged. But they have an apple pie there that is baked in a paper bag that is almost better than sex. In fact, one time I...
