Do hedgehogs require any kind of special care?

Not really.. Give them food, water, a warm place to sleep, and a wheel and they're happy :)



The only difficult thing is that they roll into a ball and poke out their quills at you when they're scared...so you have to spend a lot of bonding time with them so they get comfortable around you.

My boyfriend seriously is considering one. I don't know how well it would play with my cat though. :P

I've seen videos of hedgehogs with cats...they just puff up and the cat gets scared lol

i used to have rats. i really wanted a hedgehog, but in retrospect, i'm glad i didn't get one. because i didn't have time for my last rats as it was...



i went away to camp for a summer and moved my rats down to my dad's office so he could take care of them. when i came back, he said he wanted to keep the rats in his office because they provided him with company while he was working. but i still had to take care of them. well, because they were in the office and not in my room, i hardly ever saw them. so they weren't socialized and i didn't take very good care of them.



so i'm working my way back up to pets, but taking much better care of them than i used to. i'm going to start with hermit crabs, and possibly move up to baby turtles if my friend can get me one...

our dog george loves hedgehogs - he has 3 of em! stuffed animal hedgehogs of course, not real :)

awwwwwww I've never seen a hedgehog as a pet! I want one!! Are they expensive to keep?

the just recently aquired some tadpoles. they now have front and back feet and are starting to climb out of the tank

There's a fishmonger who has a stall on the corner near where I live. He sells live crabs, for cooking purposes obviously, but every time I walk past I'm tempted to buy one and keep it as a pet.



I love crabs. It'd be great to have one scuttling around my apartment, greeting me each morning with a cheeky yet affectionate pinch on the toe.



It'd probably perish in my care though. Most things do.

I have a hedgehog too, mine its named kiwi.

They aren't expensive to take care of at all emma. A pound of food is about $5.00, and that lasts a month. I just have to buy bedding once a week, which costs about $3.00. She's not very needy at all :)
