Ok so just curious who's up in that area?

I'm doing a second phone interview with a company up there and am considering the pros and cons of relocating up to the Bellevue area IF offered the job.

I'm nervous because I've moved from NJ to NYC, NYC to San Francisco, San Francisco to LA, and from the east side of LA to the west side of LA in the span of only 6 years.... and I really really hate moving.

Anyways... theres no real offer yet. Just phone interview #2 with the Head of the Design Department. But I figured I'd test out the waters to determine how excited I should be about an offer should it come my way. Mostly because IF I get the offer and IF I take the job I would likely need to find a room mate since my boyfriend wouldn't be able to join me up there for months until a transfer goes through.

Lol... and anyone know if I could get away with riding my vespa up there? hehe I'd probably have to get like waterproof snowboard gear or something :P

Mezo is in Seattle. That's the only person you really need.

I want to move to Seattle badly.

I currently live in Seattle, and in the past I have lived in Boston, San Francisco (my fav), Raleigh-Durham, Sandy Eggo, and Calgary. (And I hate moving too--totally feel your pain.)

So here's the skinny: Seattle is kinda like San Francisco Jr. in terms of culture and weather. It's a bit smaller than SF obviously, but still has lots of good restaurants, theatres, venues, etc. I really like it.

If you work in Bellevue, you can either live on the East side (Redmond, Bellevue, Bothell, Kirkland, etc) which tends to be moderately cheaper and less of a commute. OR you can live in Seattle, which has a commute across the 520 bridge --20- 40 mins depending on time of day. I lived in Cap Hill and commuted to Bothell and that was no probs, although the bridge gets crowded in the evenings.

If you live in Seattle proper, there are more public transit options and lots of different neighbourhoods. Capitol Hill, Downtown, and Queen Anne are all the closest for purposes of commuting, but more expensive than roommate situations on the East side.

Bike riding: Lots of people here have motorcycles, and I imagine your Vespa wouldn't be a problem MOST of the year. The rain here is generally like walking through the veggie mister in the supermarket, at least until late fall/winter. Then it gets more poury...and that's generally winter for us. Last year we had a crazy two weeks of snow, and the entire city freaked out. (Plus side is all the bosses are cool with telecommuting on snow days. They don't expect you to drive in blizzards, like my Boston employer.) So you could drive the vespa, but should have back up transit, particularly fall-winter.

lol :) If you want a black based bag let me know Lori.. the material is a little thinner and I don't have pockets in black yet cause I can't afford the printing but the olive pockets look good on black too.

I knew Mezo was up there.. I didn't think Twiggy lived there. I just thought she visited alot!

Bellevue is close to Seattle right? I looked on google maps but having never been up there before I couldn't tell if it's like a short drive or if theres tons of traffic.

Does anyone know what the public transportation is like up there? I really really don't have to have to buy a 2nd car :/

Oh and Lori I totally don't snowboard. I havn't even been on skii's since like 5th grade. I had a bit of an accident and have been scared of snow sports, but I like snow!

I'm looking at Phinney Ridge, Queen Anne or Capitol Hill area. I'd prefer not to commute over the water as the bridges are what I call floating, and scare the crap outta me. lol. Job is still open ended.

seattle is an awesome city. i think you would enjoy it, if you don't mind some rain.

black bag??? ooh that sounds mighty nice. do you have pics on your flickr?

It doesn't rain like here tho, it's such a misnomer! lol. Least in my experience, although Mezo and I walked thru Katrina like weather one day - that lasted the length of our walk. Started when we did, stopped when we got inside.

I'm thinking you and the mister would like Phinney, pyr4.

Courtney: I commute over the 520 bridge everyday. They're retrofitting the 1-90 bridge I know, and I expect they'll get to 520 after that. But I've never had a problem on it. I wouldn't have known it was a floating bridge if I hadn't googled it.

Cap Hill is an awesome neighbourhood. (It's like a combination of the Castro and the Haight. Lots of yummy restaurants, clothing stores, and nifty hair cutteries. The QFC on Broadway has everything you'd want in a grocery store...and then it has everything else too.)

..............

General Seattle/Bellevue Transit - Puget Sound Transit and King County Metro tend to be pretty decent. I know that there are a lot of links between Redmond and Seattle, and I expect that Bellevue is hooked into that network as well. It gets a bit iffier out in the burbs....like I don't know how well the buses run in, say, Bothell.

Here's some links:

Cool restaurants in Cap Hill
Poppy http://www.poppyseattle.com/
Olivar http://www.olivarrestaurant.com/
Deluxe Bar and Grill http://deluxebarandgrill.com/
(There are lots more, but those are three of my favs.)

There's also the Harvard Exit which is an indy movie theatre. And there's some really nice parks, like Cal Anderson and Volunteer nearby.

I think the thing that freaks me out was all the debate with the city/funding for repairing retrofitting etc. That's good that they're doing all that though. Still wigs me out. I'm kinda weird/paranoid about the oddest things. lol

lol well I looked it up and I'd be working in Bellevue and if Ry was able to get a transfer he'd be on the Seattle side just a little north of the Boeing Field King County Airport.

I'd be using public trans or my vespa so I think closer to Bellevue is better so my daytime commute is shorter. He'd be taking the car at night (off traffic hours) so going over the bridge for him wouldn't be a big deal.

Just not sure what neighborhoods on the Bellevue side are nice. I love being able to walk to the local markets and grocery store. We're foodies but like to cook in rather than go out.

I guess I'll get to see it myself if the phone interview goes well and they fly me up for an in person interview. *crosses fingers*

Oh and Lori.. I'll post you some pics on flickr. Any particular bag shape you want to see? I also have new bag shapes on flickr that aren't in my etsy store. I've added a backpack which came out really great. As well as a bandolier and a simple wrist strap.

We shall see. Interview #2 with the important lady in on Monday the 19th (I think shes out of the country for a trade show this week like most people in my industry).

Actually this is the second job that I'm up for a second interview for. So this is good. Hopefully I'll get an offer from one of them. I'm just not holding my breath having been dissapointed and jerked around alot in the last 2 years.

I know! I see the blogs! hehe ;) I always wish I could go.

One of my worries, if I did make the move was that I'd be once again making another major move to another big city where I'd have to start all over with like zero friends.

Although my mom wishes I'd get a job offer back on the east coast where it's easier for her to visit me. lol!
courtney pie
courtney pie on Oct 14 '09 at 1:22pm
But that's the bonus of Seattle, there's already a few awesome bloggers there. And the Portland crew too. So it's not like, zero friends. And Seattle ppl are SO nice. I think every single time I've been out and about, I've made 1 new non blogger friend - even if just for the night - and shared stories or drinks!

lol @ back east. NO! WRONG WAY!

Hrmm... I've got a A.A. in Design & a B.A. in Fashion Design. Sucky though that with all those degrees I've only ever had to take 1 computer graphics course. But I've learned alot through working experience. Anyways I'm currently working as an Accessory Designer in LA.

I love my cat. His name is Zelazny and he's just the sweetest kitty ever! He love people... even strangers! He love taking naps where he doesn't belong and being picked up and those little kitty treats with the crunchy outside and squishy inside. He love feather sticks and little catnip mice. He does not like dogs and other cats. He is a big bully and will try to beat them up. He will also meow until you pick him up and give him attention. :D
