Yes. Yes, I want them. Some people have told me not to go for it because they don't like them or don't think I would look good with them. Others have said, go ahead. The only thing I'm worried about is if I keep them for a while, (which I probably will since it takes a while to make your hair actually look like dreadlocks) I'll eventually not want them anymore and be forced to shave my head to get rid of them. A shaven head is something I'm not so sure about. I don't think I could pull that off at all.

There are some hair products that are made to get rid of dreads but those can't work all the time. Any thoughts? How did your dreads come out? Did you keep them? What did you do to get rid of them?

he use knotty boy dreadwax to keep them in heck too.
i like their look, but have deceided agains them myself just because oh the ammount of work involved.

Oh and when we wanted to cut them we just left them for a while. he did not have to shave his ead, but ended up with short hair. About 10 centimeters or so.

I used to have a big curly 'fro which would dred itself. In the end, I cut it off. There was no way the dreds were coming out with a comb. Apparently if you have straight hair, it takes a bit of effort to make them dred.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. I know there are a few different methods in maintaining dreads and making them in the first place. But I'm sure in order to make them look their best you'd probably have to be quite dedicated.

Well, in this case it's good that I have naturally wavy/somewhat curly hair. I usually straighten my hair because I hate the curls.

I have only ever liked dreads on black people. I have never seen a non black person with dreads that didn't look kind of dirty, I think it's because they need grease and chemicals to help keep it stick together.

Kookaberry, it all depends on the person's own hygiene habits, There are people whose hair always looks greasy/dirty and others whose hair is always clean. It is true that people with straight hair like mine need natural waxes to help the dreading process, but I never found my hair to be dirty.
If you have straight hair (or curly) I can highly recommend knotty boy dread waxes, soaps and other products. I used these and was really satisfied with how they worked.

oh yes, it is a high maintenance hair style if you have straight hair, don't assume you don't have to do anything to your hair once they are put in...

I agree with Kookaberry - dreads on white people look really unnatural and, well, naff in my opinion.

I had weird long braids for a while when I was about 18 which pretty much turned into dreads. I'm glad I don't anymore mainly cos I hate not washing my hair. But they look good on some people. But in retrospect, I was not one of them.
