I have to write a paper about heroism. So do me a favor and answer a couple of questions.

1) What is your definition of hero?

2) Has this definition changed since you were a child?

3) Who was your hero when you were a kid?

4) Who is your hero now?

Thanks in advance. ;D

1) What is your definition of hero? A hero is someone who goes out of their way to do good. This could be as simple as stopping their car after a storm to remove a large branch or something dangerous like diving in front of an oncoming car to save a pedestrian. A hero can also be anyone that someone looks up to. Someone who struggled and overcame the odds.

2) Has this definition changed since you were a child? When I was a child I thought a hero was only someone who did something big, like saving kittens from trees and all heros could fly

3) Who was your hero when you were a kid? I don't remember a specific person, but I remember thinking a bunch of cartoon characters were heroes

4) Who is your hero now? My mother.

Thanks for your input! Now I just need like, 10 more of these to draw a good enough conclusion to write a paper about.

1) What is your definition of hero?

There's sort of two kinds for me -- somebody who has done something to earn respect, a more 'noble' sort of deal; and somebody who you look up to because you admire them.

2) Has this definition changed since you were a child?

Not really

3) Who was your hero when you were a kid?

For the first definition, Terry Fox, the second one, Kermit

4) Who is your hero now?

Hrmm...probably still Terry Fox, or Shakespeare hahaha.

Wait, #4, for the second type, probably David Bowie

1) What is your definition of hero? Someone to look up to and potentially model one's actions after. I suppose there is some synonymity between "hero" and "role model".

2) Has this definition changed since you were a child? Not entirely. The thing is, as a child, I had very few real life persons that I looked up to; at least, I was unaware of the potential "heroes" around me.

3) Who was your hero when you were a kid? Spider-man. Cheesy, I know.

4) Who is your hero now? My brother, though Spider-man still holds a special place in my heart.

1) What is your definition of hero?

Someone I look up to, and have a lot of respect for because of what they have done/their values, ethics, etc. Also someone I would like to be like, I think..

2) Has this definition changed since you were a child?

Yes. When I was younger, I didn't really have a definition. Just someone I thought was cool, I suppose.

3) Who was your hero when you were a kid?

My parents.

4) Who is your hero now?

One of my teachers.

I remember arguing with kids at school who thought Batman was better than Spiderman. He doesn't even have any super powers. Psh.

Sure, but arguably, that's why he's better.

1.Hero=Someone who is willing to risk their safety for the good of strangers.

2.Yes it has. When i was younger Wayne Gretzky was my hero cuz i wanted to play pro hockey but now i think thats ridiculous. No athlete or any famous person should be called a hero cuz they get paid for what they do so basically they are just doing their job.

3. Wayne Gretzky

4. I have many heroes now. A few are...

Che-not for what everyone knows him for but for when he was younger and everything he did to help the lepers.

My mom-she goes out of her way to help total strangers for no reason. She takes homeless people out for dinner/lunch and will let them come to our house to shower and give them a change of clean clothes. I could go on and on about the good she does shes the most selfless person i know.

1) What is your definition of hero?

There's a big difference between a hero and doing something heroic. A hero is someone you look up to, it doesn't matter why but that person's accomplishments have inspired you in some way.

2) Has this definition changed since you were a child?

Yes. A hero used to be someone who did something brave, like rescue someone from a burning building. Even my definition of bravery has changed since then. I now think it's doing/saying anything because you feel it's right without caring how it will affect yourself (ie: burning building thing) or others (ie:something controversial).

3) Who was your hero when you were a kid?

Rainbow Brite and my Grandma. Or my dad, because he's a firefighter and fits the whole burning building thing.

4) Who is your hero now?

Depends on the category of hero, but still my dad and my grandma. Also, Bettie Page.

i've actually just picked a new hero for myself in the last couple days.

1) What is your definition of hero?

someone you strive to be like because of what they have done in their life.

2) Has this definition changed since you were a child?

yes, i probably used to think a hero had to be someone in pop culture more than someone you really can see yourself being like.

3) Who was your hero when you were a kid?

i don't remember an exact one, and i am still a kid (17) but it was probably someone on sesame street? :P

4) Who is your hero now?

Christopher Hitchens

I only like the Batman on the old 70's TV show. Man. THAT was epic.

Nanananananananana Batman.

I would like to add this to my #1: They do good even if there is the chance that someone won't recognize them for the action.

1) What is your definition of hero? Someone who is noble in their actions toward others, whose very existence inspires others; one who brings about great change.

2) Has this definition changed since you were a child? Certainly, but as children we have idols more than we have heroes, because I don't think we have necessarily begun to realize our own definition of a hero.

3) Who was your hero when you were a kid? I really liked John Travolta in Grease, and I thought Mats Sundin to be a great hockey player, but as stated previously, I don't think I really had a hero or even saw anyone in that light.

4) Who is your hero now? I think with the people that I truly admire now, I do so for better reasons and probably more strongly. As a child, I rarely admired women. I don't think I was sexist, but as I grew, I was able to see strength in female characters that I didn't before. But I stand by my general definition in terms of my heroes now - people who commit selfless acts, and those who bring about great change, especially without sacrificing morals. This is all very subjective, which is the nature of morals, values, and heroes for everyone.

Sorry for my answers maybe being a little roundabout, but I didn't want to answer anything falsely. I've just never really seen things in terms of specific heroes.

1) I think that everyday life is filled with heroism...I think a hero is someone who perseveres, sacrifices, acts and does what they must in a selfless, thankless way in situations that are either dangerous, terrifying, hopeless, grueling, exhausting, etc. When I think of heroes, I especially think of everyday people who have served in our military in the course of our nation's history, and how they did their part to serve both the strong and the weak and to try to make the world a better place. I think especially of the World War II veteran's, as both my father and uncle served. They did nothing dramatic, but they found a way to cope, to serve and to persevere in the face of fear and adversity because it was necessary and it was right. I also think, as I said, of the small, unknown everyday people who don't give up, that put forth continued, unwavering effort to do their very best in their situation for the sake of others.

2) Of course my definition has changed since I was a child, because now I understand a small bit of this mess we call life.

3) I didn't really have a hero as a child in the sense of Superman, etc.--I never believed in fantasy characters much. But I always looked to my dad to be there for me in my difficult growing up situation.

4) To this day, even though my dad passed when I was 16, I still consider him my hero. I am who I am today because of all he sacrificed for me and all he did.

Thanks for all your help you guys, I took all of your thoughts into account and wrote a killer essay that completely overshadowed all the other kids' essays about football players and such.
