I enjoy sci-fi (and sci-fi comedy), fantasy, absurd humor, dark satire....I really enjoy dry wit, and compelling subtext, but even just a really good character driven story about a couple of friends might be my thing, so get crackin...

new rule: just list awesome books

Agreed, HG Wells is great. I recently read Frankenstein and LOVED it. I'm trying to read all the books I was SUPPOSED to have read in HS and college. lol

Also, the Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo and the Girl Who Played w/ Fire are REALLY good and quick reads. I haven't gotten to the 3rd part of the series yet. #1 starts off slow, but give it some time.

Enjoy your Kindle...I want one SOOO bad! :o)

Im inspired! I really need to read up on the old classics. As a kid I had the abridged sets from like the local supermarket....never read the real things though....moby dick, treaure island, 20,000 leagues and so on

I recently read the Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas, since it's available for free. It's long, but I felt quite proud that I managed to get through it.

And as far as fantasy goes, I will always love the David Eddings series, even if they are a little formulaic.

Tender is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Most people prefer Gatsby which I still like, but Tender is the Night just has such rich language. But I'm biased. You should just read anything by Fitzgerald.

Or read The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. It's just so darn tense and creepy.

Have you read Ender's Game?

Personally, I like anything by Ted Dekker, with the Circle series being my favorite, followed by Showdown.

I also recently read How to Survive in a Science Fictional Universe by Charles Yu which was an interesting read.

Invisible Man is great. Same here with the abridged classics. Been working on re-reading some of those myself.

It's funny you mentioned The Man Who Was Thursday. That one just came to my attention this past week, and I was considering picking it up.

I quite like the obvious classics, like The Picture of Dorian Gray - Oscar Wilde and Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte etc., but there are some must reads like Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - Lewis Carroll and The Phantom of the Opera - Gaston Leroux etc. which give you a sense of accomplishment once you've finished them.

I came in here to say Cloud Atlas! You HAVE to read it!

Also, try some Haruki Murakami. He is brilliant.
