Ok, so those other blogs got outta hand, I actually didnt mean to leave the star wars dislike blog for that long, but I was away from my computer for a bit and forgot...I had intended to flip the title of the blog and change what I said so that peoples reactions looked ridiculous...but instead I waited too long, then tried making a couple serious points about acting and dialogue... and then it all spiraled out of control.

Anyway, I want to talk about sci fi, in a big way. I was trying to think of some really good sci fi movies when I made that blog, and they aren't really coming to me.

Dark City
The Matrix (#1 obviously)
Equilibrium (was good, if not for some plot holes)
Serenity (one of my all time favs in the sci fi genre)
12 Monkeys (another in my top 10 of all time)

WHAT ELSE? Why can't I remember?

note: I would say 2001 but I saw it when I was so young I dont even remember it...so it would be a bit of a lie.

Added:

Stargate
Total Recall
Moon! (how could I forget, I just saw this)
5th Element
Blade Runner
Minority Report
Star Trek (2009)
Mars Attacks
Ghost Busters
City Of Lost Children
Dune
Alien
Aliens
The Terminator
Terminator 2
Back To The Future
Close Encounters
Cube
Demolition Man (definitely campy fun)
E.T.
Jurassic Park
Logan's Run
Flight Of The Navigator
Star Wars Episodes 4-6
WALL-E
The Abyss
Children of Men
Tron
Starship Troopers

Kurt Russel Goodness
- steel dawn

I loved Sunshine because it remained realistic when other space crew movies get bogged down in unnecessary romances and betrayals, when in Sunshine they all acted as anyone else who would've be chosen to complete the most important task to all mankind: to stay loyal and focused on executing the mission, no matter the sacrifices.

Whilst I cant comment on the first star trek films (because I havent seen them) I think the new star trek film is worth a mention because its pretty sinificant.

All of the previous star trek films suffered from the same basic problem which prevented them from being blockbuster movies and that was that you had to have a pretty decent grasp on the series.

and yes there were good star trek films (first contact was amazing) but if you werent a fan there was very little chance of you enjoying them.

The new film made star trek accessable for people who had never seen it before.

One of the things that really defined this was my experiences in the cinema, I saw it on the day it came out (I'm a pretty big fan) and loved every minute of it but on its opening day (and the day after) the cinema was fairly quite.

a week later (I saw the film five times) it was packed and showings were sold out.

People automatically assumed that because it was a star trek film it would be bad, so the majority of that first audience were star trek fans, but the audience probably contained a few lost fans and others that werent all that die hard.

Those guys spread the word that it was actually a really good and fun film, which is why it sold out a week later.

Well I planned on seeing it once but I knew that it wasnt going to have the same feel on the small screen (plus for me it goes up there on my very small list of perfect movies) so I saw it a second time.

The rest I had nothing better to do and friends were going.

My previous record was three times for pirates of the carribean but that was because different groups of friends were going to see it at different times.

I think Star Trek was a really fun re-imagining/retelling...but it had some plot holes and plot conveniences that bothered me a bit. Definitely a good movie though.

Does back to the future and sequals count as sci-fi films?

I know a time machine is science fiction but its more of a time travel film than sci-fi (the sci-fi is a means to an end rather than everything).

I really liked the new Star Trek, and that's coming from someone with only very minimal knowledge/awareness of the previous movies and television series. Also,

Sunshine, seconded.
Le Voyage Dans La Lune (1902)....both for historical reasons, and because it's really cool.
Demolition Man .....campy, but fun.
A Scanner Darkly .....for some amazing animation, a twisting storyline, and solid performances.

I count Back To The Future...I never really cared for the sequels where the sci fi was more prevalent (especially 2).

Is The Thing sci fi or more Horror?

I'd also add that the new star trek saved the franchise, it was on its death bed and if the film had sucked it would of been the heart attack that killed it.

I cant defend the plot holes because I know their there but it didnt seem all that important at the time, I jusyt enjoyed the film.

I think there's a French original of Solaris and then a remake with George Clooney from like 2002
