I think I'm one of the very few people that's not into Glennz designs, he's a great illustrator, but his concepts seem really plain and obvious most of the time, yes clever but I don't think they're nearly as good as say Fatheed's or Olie's. I think defend the kingdom is the one I would actually buy.

I have never liked any Glennz design apart from the initial concept. His execution is too flat and feels lazy.

littlem on Jul 25 '08 at 2:05pm
that sounds like me: flat and lazy
againstbound
againstbound on Jul 25 '08 at 2:07pm
I don't think it's lazy, is just that it doesn't feel like a style at all, it's like he's just portraying stuff the way it is, like he's not adding anything of his own.

it's not a matter of snobbery but of personal-tastes - not that i really mean being called a design snob though.

Of course the idea is his own, if it wasn't he wouldn't have any prints, but stylistically he's nowhere near some great designers here (Roadkilled, Mathiole, Radiomode, Hogboy, Fatheed, John2, MartinK, Yeohgh, etc, etc, etc).

Oh well, I'm not with the haters here, i love a lot of his stuff, I think he could have some more background elements and etc in much of his work, and it's usually a bit too small. But i do like the "Evolution" idea a lot.

Nah, I don't hate his work, I just don't care for it.

I see what AB is saying about the main concept. I love when peeps put a ton of little jokes and small touches to bring the humor out time and time again when you look at a shirt or poster print.

I prefer the simplicity in his execution. He gets the idea across clearly, from 2 ft or 20ft (if you aren't blind). For conceptual t-shirt art, clarity is the defining aspect.

i really enjoy the simplicity and cleverness of glennz' designs. i hear what you guys are saying about his style of execution, but the subtlety of it is something i personally enjoy. not to say that he's my favorite threadless designer...he's not...but i do really like his style.

That's pretty awesome, I'm not sure if I should get it for my husband or my dad or my brother. Maybe I should get some money first!

I like his clean, simple lines - though I often wish his designs were a bit larger on the tees. There's a place for all sorts of styles - and sometimes certain styles carry a design, sometimes they don't.

simple is great

I don't think it's a "great drawing", canadian. Sure, it is clean and technical, but it is also visually drab.

I am not a hater of glennz, I'm not just a fan of his style. Like tomburns style is not my cup of tea- not ironically, the latter is a giant admirer of the former. But both artists do have a strong clever wit.

i would have never lumped glennz with saul bass, seems like a really weird comparison to me.
ps. does simple = minimalistic?

that wasn't so impressive...

i like moss' "evolver" design a lot more. not that they're really similar, but I am in the market for a bitchin' evolution-related tee to wear when i teach biology.

it's a simple comparison of style choices.
sure, there are and were more elaborate graphic desingers than saul bass but his simple approach always seemed very effective.

i think glennz has a very similar thing going, in that, there are a lot of designers here who do much more composite type pieces, brighter color combos, whatever, but he stays true to what he knows.

i don't know minimalistic, compared to what? i find most of hte random splatter patterns that have gone away thank god, to be very minimalistic, but they "look" like they have a lot going on.

I looked at my closet and the tees with prints on it.
None are like glennz and tom burns.
Just personal taste in what I wear that's all.

And I really see no resemblance in them with saul bass.

a very similar fish design was submitted before glenns design on here... his felt a little to ripped off to me...

his ideas are often great for what they are and his design is very geared to getting the message across, and also is very good for what it is...

the man is great even if it's not my personal cup of t on an artistic or aesthetic level, i don't feel enough personal expression or experimentation in his work...

it's a little uninspiring on a visual level but hey he sells buckets load of the stuff:)
