I'm sure there's an article buried in there somewhere, too. I'll get a picture later.

" The all-time best-selling Threadless shirt certainly isn't cute. Called "Flowers in the Attic," it depicts a svelte young woman shooting herself in the head, causing birds to fly out. The company has sold 30,000 already, compared to a typical first printing of 1,200 shirts, and is printing another 10,000 for the holiday sales rush."

that's kinda fn depressing.

'Coudal boils the Threadless idea down to a slogan that might work on a T-shirt: "If they come, we will build it."'

Next Type Tee, anyone?

I'm glad they turned down Urban and Target, too. ESPECIALLY Target. I couldn't even imagine. The article hit it right on point, we don't just buy the shirts for the design, but for the story, the meaning, the explanation and the excitement of new prints. It all plays a factor. If I didn't read the explanation of Poet-Trees and I just saw it in Target, it would mean nothing to me. Even if i saw Pandamonium, I would probably think it was cute, but just the fact that it was at Target, i don't know, it would just feel very different. If they went to Urban I wouldn't be as sad as Target, but still sad. I LOVE when i see people with threadless tees, because i feel like I know them. They understand the shirts, they visited the site and browsed and saw something they liked. They weren't just trying to be trendy and went into Urban Outfitters ad bought a tee shirt they saw. Threadless tees have a lot more going into them than just buying them. I'm not that surprised they only cost $4 to make. Does that factor in their payroll and everything? Also the bills for the building and the machine cost? I assume it would, just an avg price of the money going into ashirt. Hm. I'm pretty shocked about Flowers In The Attic, also! I never bought it because i'm just not crazed about it. Maybe I just don't understand the meaning? I do see some meaning but its not anything that really makes me say "i NEED that!" Thanks for posting the article.

I didn't know they turned down target and UO! I hate to sound elitist, but thank GOD. I buy stuff at target sometimes, but I'd hate it if threadless was just a target brand. And with UO's history of stealing designs from small artists and popularity among trendwhores, I'm v. glad threadless didn't sell out to them.

I work at Target... and if I was working one day and saw that we sold Threadless tees -- I would have quit that day.

BTW. My mom just walked in and handed me the Chicago Tribune with Threadless on the cover. I was like "Yeah, I already know".
