I was just saying to my friends back home that I hope it doesn't snow here and they thought I was crazy because they love snow.

I agree that it looks pretty in photographs and when lying undisturbed, or on fields and woods etc, but in a city it's grim and ugly. When a few people have walked across it it becomes brown and treacherous and the roads are like some kind of ice cold swamp.

Who's with me?

PRO.

It makes everything slow down and that's generally a good thing.

Sledging/Plastic sheeting.

Time off Work

Injects much needed brightness into the british winter.

snow is nice when it stops the whole live in the city and everything is pretty and slow.. but then the snow removing trucks come and put it all on the side and what is remaining is grey dirty stuff..

if it's outside the city its almost always pretty :)

trindli on Nov 03 '09 at 5:25am
why do you get time off work when it snows? or how much does it have to snow that you get time off?
Bramish

I've never had time off work for snow.

The UK so rarely get's heavy snow that anything above about 6 inches of snowfall renders the country's infrastructure pretty much useless. Everyone just gives up and has a few days off.

Plus I live on a steep hill, so that's 1 extra reason (Despite the fact that at 7 in the morning some lunatics will be out shovelling and gritting it).

this is why I'm pro-snow

I'm also pro-John Snow

• wears stripey socks
• said hello to me once
• refuses to bow down to 'poppy facsim' by not wearing one

The UK infrastructure nearly collapses when it rains a bit to heavily, when it snows it's chaos.

I've never seen a city with snow. But I want to. I guess I have the romantic white undisturbed Christmas snow fantasy in my head and not the grey sludge.

i'm pro snow as long as it only shows up for december & january.
anything outside that is just offensive.

i love driving in it, but the influx of californians with their SUV's that they have no idea how to drive, always end up ruining all the fun for the rest of us...

yeah i've never seen snow in a city either. it's got to be a little more pleasant than snow in the wild. it'd be bearable if you could duck into some warmly lit and heated coffee shop and laugh at people slipping on ice outside.

Snow is amazing, its one of the things I miss the most about canada.

With snow you can go drifitng or sledding behind the back of a car.

Or theres the most traditional snowboarding, skiing and sledding.

Also you have to remember that there are different types of snow depending on the region your in plus theres the frequency of the snow to consider.

The east coast of north america will like have 4 ft of snow in a day but nothing for weeks (but its wet snow which means you can make snowmen) on the other hand, places like the praries in canada tend to have constant snow (it snows pretty much everyday) but its light and powdery, which means its difficult to make snow anything but because its constant the city never gets too brown and sludgy.

plus cause of the cold it gets comacted and becomes a solid base.

Vancouver snow is better than snow from other places? Is this why there are crazy snow-hating people? They don't live in Vancouver?

I grew up in south TX, so snow is still cool as hell when I get it. We got some really good snow here in the Seattle area last year.

- Snow on ground good
- Snow on road bad

I like the way it looks, but I hate the cold. I hate snow balls being thrown in my face. I hate how slippery it is.

Snow can go to hell...and melt.
squatterjohn
squatterjohn on Nov 03 '09 at 8:29am
I can't cope with barely above freezing temperatures so I don't know how I could cope with sub-zero. So I'd probably hate it. Although city snow does sound appealing as you can duck inside and escape it.

I love snow but I also only POTENTIALLY get snow here around January/February.

I cant imagine having Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas with that sort of weather. It's generally sunny and nice and the leaves are gorgeous.

The "snow" we occasionally get in Texas is some gross ice sludge. As you can imagine, we all run for the hills when something that foreign falls from the sky. Or we just run inside our houses.
