I've had a few designs declined recently, and I think it's because I don't know how to get rid of the tiny color variants in my images. Can someone tell me how I get my image to only be 4 colors in photoshop?

do you mean when you save it it makes it more colors?

I'm scanning an image in, so it has little tiny color variants that I can't seem to get rid of. I guess it's saving that.

can you post the image? if threadless were to choose your design as a winner, you would have to have your design already separated into four different color layers.

I can post one of them.

No, but coloring problems seemed like the most probable to me.

I don't know what to suggest it looks like you've only used 4 colours, but now you can use 5 anyway so that shouldn't be a problem, it might just be that the "judges" didn't think the design was good enough. I've had all my submissions refused so far for non-specific reasons, like that, so I''m just waiting to find out why they refuse the ones currently pending.

Funny I thought it was down to the members of the site to vote if something was good or bad when I first found this site but now I find my stuff isn't even given the chance.

but to address your question re: photoshop, which version are you using because it will depend what features you have to use?

I have Adobe Photoshop CS and I've used a couple of different effects on drawings to simplyfy (sp?) the colour range.

This is what I do...

1. Scan in your picture in grayscale mode (this will get rid of the little variants).

2. In photoshop, turn the mode back to rgb so you can color it.

3. Do whatever you need to do to color.

4. When saving for threadless, I ALWAYS use Save For Web. Then change the settings to gif and it will actually show you how big the file is (it must be less than 120 kb). It defaults to 256 colors... just take it down a little at a time until your picture is under 120 kb. It's ok if there are other little colors in there... they keep your image from looking pixelated.

Hope this helps.
