• pronounced "skeh-ver" and not "skee-ver", as some people seem to pronounce it. My group of friends & I when we were in our early teens were all pretty similarly minded, and we all skateboard. We believed we had a really different way of seeing skating to everybody else (and still do), so we formed kind of a group, and if you were part of it, you were a SKEVER. Almost 10 years later now, still the same small group of friends, skating everyday, and still with the same mentality :) So I'm pretty proud to be a skever, and use it as a username almost everywhere.

• You should definitely familiarise yourself with Photoshop or a similar program (Gimp is free & a great option). If all your design work is done in illustrator then what you have to do in PS isnt all that complicated.. Just open your template in PS, go to FILE>PLACE>Select your .ai file, and adjust it to fit the template, FILE>SAVE FOR WEB>Done. As for the "painting in Black", the black represents an "uncovered" area on a layer mask. So painting black allows a colour/property that the layer has applied to "show through" the mask.. If you don't know about layer masks then this probably sounds like gibberish to you. So just get stuck in & learn.
