So, Hi there.

This summer I'm getting surgery to correct my deviated septum. I heard it hurts like a bitch. Has anyone gotten the surgery?

You can't really tell from my photos because I take them all from the same angle, but my nose is kinda fucked up...my parents are pushing for me to get a nose job during the same surgery.

Thoughts?

Good luck! A nose job? Why?! Your nose looks just fine to me!

There's nothing wrong with your nose.

I do think its kind of strange that your parents want you to get a nose job though. O.o

my dad suggested the same thing to me when I got my tonsils out

I was supposed to have a nosejob but by error in the system I got a boob job instead as allegedly it was cheaper and tax refundable here.
Now I never have to date anybody to get access to boobs AND worry about my nose.

Mitch, do we have the same dad? He once wrote me this letter:

"Dear Son,

A new face is like a new beginning. Seeing you haven't been doing so great at life so far, you might want to look into it. Hey! I'll even buy! MY TREAT!

Love,
Dad (from the other room because I can't look at your face without seeing failure and crying)"

Also, I think your nose is lovely as it is.

I have a deviated septum and opted not to proceed with the surgery, I think in my case, because I also have a benign cyst there, the risks far outweighed opting out (death vs. not death). I used to get crazy sinus infections but I think my body has gotten used to the deviated-ness, because I hardly get them anymore, but breathing through my nose can still be an issue. I'm a mess.

BUT, good luck with the surgery! Hopefully you don't have much pain

Also, my father had a deviated septum surgery. I know it was tender for him for a little bit but he survived. You'll be ok though, a little pain is better than dying in your sleep.

I think the nose job, if I'm right here wouldn't be the way you guys are talking about it's more of a repair because the surgery can be really intrusive, so in some instances some cosmetic fix up might be necessary

or maybe they hate your nose?

I always thought a deviated septum was the lie people told when they were getting a nose job.

I have also heard that there is a risk of bleeding out during the operation. If it's ultimately better for your health to get the surgery, just make sure you do your research and get an outstanding surgeon at a good hospital. Good luck!

i don't have a deviated septum, but i do have very narrow sinuses that cause me to be constantly stuffed up and short of breath. i'm thinking about looking into corrective surgery this summer.

From this blog (and my own experience), I learned that jews have really bad nose DNA.

For some reason I go for lasses with slightly odd noses. It adds character, I'd stick with it.

Haha thanks guys! I think the surgery to correct the septum is necessary I've basically been breathing at 50 percent my whole life. Also I want to get it done while my parents will pay for it muhahah. The nose job part will fix a large bump that I have on the left side of my nose and it also juts out to the left as well. And apparently my doc says Im missing cartilage at the end of my nose, I want him to change the least amount possible.

Also at the end of the consultation, after complaining about my nose the entire time, turned to my mother and told her she has a beautiful face, and told me I would be lucky to look like her when I'm her age.

i don't know if my septum is deviated, but my nostrils are pretty asymmetrical.

also, possibly related, I'm like 5% stuffy all the time.

noses are so full of weird.

fiona, i got the surgery a few years ago. there is absolutely no pain afterwards, just uncomffy. ur nose is literally packed with gauze. but i will assure u this, when the dr. takes the packing out a week after surgery, u will feel the greatest relief in the world. when i was able to breathe out of both nostrils at 100% i thought i was dreaming.

than of course theres the blood boogers :D

I think that I need to say "blood boogers" more often. Also, start ending conversations with "Whomp whomp" in person.

i've done it. it's great. it doesn't hurt, you'll have a ball.
you sleep, then wake up feeling magical with your nose packed full of cocaine.
syringing the blood and gunk out for the next week is a bit gross but oddly satisfying.

i actually don't feel heaps better for having it done to be honest. i'm still stuffy most of the time, plus now i have scar tissue in my nose that dries out and cracks all the time and then stings like a bitch, so that's pleasant.

I've had the surgery (2yrs ago) and honestly it's made a world of difference. I no longer have to go through tissues as often and hayfever/allergies have been reduced. As for the polyp, that's grown back already which is damn annoying.
