We have them in North America. Adam/Phiffer is one. And a family friend really likes trains. I'm not sure he train spots but he love them.

Oh wow.

And yeah, I think it may also have to do with the fact that in the U.S. there just aren't that many trains. Like, we have them and we have people that like them, but going on them or going to the train station isn't that big a part of our life here. The U.S. just has a bigger highway culture than it does have a railway one.
Although, Union Station (in D.C.) is freaking gorgeous.
