I would appreciate your thoughts and feelings on my first design here. I have not submitted it yet because I am hoping you can give me some tips on how to improve it. I am not a designer by nature; I am a writer so this is a pretty big jump for me. If ya hate it or love it I would love the constructiveness of actually feedback. I have only been a member of this site for a short while but I think I have already built up a friendship with a few people (or maybe I have arch enemys in the making, who knows?).
The title is "always wear underwear".

No comments? I'll start. That doesn't even look like underwear! How old are you? 14! Get a life!
To which I might reply.
Sorry if I am bad at art, it is not my talent but that's kind of why I am looking for your help. And I much very slightly older than 14.

Still no comments? I'm starting to lose faith in this community. How cool is that?

I tell ya, one crack about talking on a cellphone in the middle of a movie and everyone is ready to yell at me but ask for tshirt advice and I get the cold shoulder. Why is that?

Well glad you can keep yourself company. How about first you tell us what its supposed to be, then we tell you how to make it look like what its supposed to be. Right now its some straight lines, 1 curved one, and two circles with some downloaded text.

The picture is supposed to be a pair of boxer shorts. I made it in Adobe Illustrator which proves to be a very aggravating program for a beginner like myself. And the phrase “semper ubi sub ubi” is a sort of Latin pun that just means “always wear underwear”.

He ^ ^ means, why might anyone want to choose this shirt to wear for going out, out of other shirts he may have?

I think the phrase in Latin is pretty clever and would appeal to a lot of people.

Alright, so if your Latin phrase is your hook for the shirt, wouldn't it make sense to play it out more? Since Latin is one of the old romantic languages, why not try a more elegant font... maybe instead of curving it try centering it

My high school's latin club had this shirt a few years ago.

They did it really well, too. It had a lineart figure wearin underwear.. Made me chuckle.

I guess it's a pretty popular joke, I figured I couldn't be the first one to think of it :)

I'll play around with the font this evening. I am thinking about ditching the underwear graphic for a guy wearing underwear giving a big thumbs up.

or how bout you make whoever is wearing the underwear look extremely roman...

your solution is obvious. Caesar in underwear giving the thumbs up. The leaf circlet crown thing is absolutely necessary, nd a bit of green and gold could show it off better (so that people KNOW it's supposed to be a caesar).

Underwear is so five minutes ago.

You got some good advice there. I like the caesar in boxers idea. Good luck with Illustrator, it will take some time and fiddling. Did you do a tutorial?

I got Illustrator for dummies and a basic working knowledge of Photoshop... but I don't think it is enough.

yeah... illustrator... the best way to learn is to HAVE TO learn... pre-kinkos i was terrible with it, now i design fence post catalogs... yay me...

i guess i have to agree about making the text a little more "classical"

joe wants to do some internet tests now... no more typy

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Force yourself to use the pen tool until you feel like you "get" how bezier curves work. You'll be so grateful. Pick up the keyboard shortcuts for moving anchor handles or selecting anchor points and you can zip through a design.

Heh.. On our old latin club t-shirts we had that on the back. I think if the translation is too obvious and not an inside joke it's kinda spoiled..
