Brütal Legend

i just played the demo. the combat is a little clunky but it's pretty cool. i'm looking forward to the full game.

the monsters and enemies seem cool. looks like there'll be a variety of vehicles, although the hotrod would have been enough for me.
the attacks are kind of full on right from the word go which seems like it'll get boring, and the attacks are only X or hold X, A or hold A, B for block which is all a bit simple. i hope blocking doesn't become too important because i hate blocking. i'm going to do as much killing as i can from the car.

theres actually a warfare strategy component to the battles on top of the traditional brawler stuff, ign gave it a great review

the trailer said due out the 16th i think, but i haven't even seen it listed as coming soon here. we get a bit delayed sometimes. isn't ghostbusters meant to be out? i haven't seen any hint of it either.
i bet they're holding out for christmas sales. pricks.

that sounds promising steve, because the brawling is as mindless as Smash Bros.

well the way i play it is mindless. maybe that's the problem. i just mash buttons.
but you can't even do that in brutal legend as far as i can tell. it might just be the demo but there's not much in the way of combos. there's a couple of X+A equals bigger attack, but it still doesn't seem like thinking or planning will help.
hopefully it's just me being unsophisticated, which should be an advantage in a metal themed game in a perfect world.

I used to adore Jack Black and Tenacious D but now I'm pretty much dreadfully tired of his shtick and manic performances, so would that make this game a bullet through the brain experience for me or can you pipe your character down?

From one review I read, they said the comedy and writing overall is pretty good and that Jack Black was good in his role and wasn't just him being Jack Black. But he is playing a metal dude, so I don't know. He could be good in the role but it doesn't mean much if you don't like him.

No, I used to love the shit out of him back when I saw Tenacious D play at a tiny theater in Philly and it was just a bunch of die-hard fans who watched the HBO show which had just been taken off the air a couple months before the gig. And he was pretty great and perfectly cast in Tropic Thunder. But lately I just can't take the flippty-do-dah!!!! thing any more from him.

turns out it's pretty cool. there's some good characters in it. the combat is a bit tough and i wish you could jump, but it's cool.

i finished it in 3 days, but it was pretty great. i'll definitely play through it again. it's awesome doing jumps and mowing down Raptor Elk in my hotrod with motley crues Kickstart My Heart playing.

I want to buy this game but I dont think I want it enough to justify spending yet more money I dont have.

I will get it eventually...

Also I have heard that the opening training sequence is nothing like the rest of the game.

it is, it's just that as the game progresses you gain different armed units and have to direct them in battles. all the stuff you do in training is still there, you just have a couple of added features later on.

When I was watching a video it looked like it jumped from an action game to a real time strategy game like age of empires.

It still looks fun though.

it's a little like that, but it remains an action game. you have to remember to create units and tell them where to go fight, but you can also run around fighting yourself as much as you want. i didn't like the sound of real time strategy either and i suck at managing units in those kind of games, but i liked this.

actually you do eventually grow wings and get to fly during band battles, but when the battle ends the wings vanish and you miss them.
