my dad insisted i order him a copy, and it's about the worst quality print i've ever seen from threadless.
i'd come to accept that they fucked up by not printing the foil as intended, but this isn't even as good as a regular shirt. it's all pixelated and the ink is full of tiny pinprick holes, as if it was printed through a screen door instead of silk. maybe that's another symptom of the simulated process they used to achieve the butt ugly grey gradient that took the place of the intended foil, and the colours are really harsh and cheap looking. either way i hate it. i hope nobody else is as disappointed as i am.

Maybe with selects they should take a bunch of photos (including close ups) of a sample printed shirt and send them to the artist for approval - it would take a day or two (not that a delay in the select process would effect anything) and it would head off these problems in the future.

It would be nice if all printed shirts could get a visual once over before they print 2K but I understand logistically that would be tough - but for selects, it could just be part of the whole plan ya know?

I hear ya about your simple design olie, I was in a similar spot with abe.

There's been a fair number of times where I've liked a design and then not liked how it wound up being printed. It's prevented me from a number of purchases. I wonder why Threadless doesn't touch work with designers when they decide to change the print size/location/color etc. I understand that there are often limitations but I guess I think it would be nice for the designers to be aware of the changes and allowed input through the whole process.

Yeah I was surprised when LOL didn't take up the whole shirt like on the sub.

Kooka, couldn't agree with you more. If they are going to change a design the least they could do is let us know.

Also, for what it's worth I fricking LOVE abe, and I think it turned out pretty damn good. It's a bit smaller than the presentation made it on guy's shirts, but only a bit.

Well I didn't want to complain but I did feel like our design lost a bit of what made it neat when they made the changes.

I still haven't bought a copy, haha. I was waiting for the sale and then it didn't go on sale =| so I'll probably just buy a few this week.

yeah - they actually had to go smaller with abe because they wanted it for abe's birthday and the oversize printing takes longer.

And really I didn't mind to much on that one - I think it would have sold better if the pistols looked more like suspenders as was the intent - but no big deal.

it was another shirt that was flat out a mess that made me cry and wanna give up the whole endeavor. I am uncomfortably close to having a hissy fit so I am gonna leave this train of thought and go think about wheeled warriors and 14th century chivalry in franch

oversized printing also costs a lot more. wrap around prints, jeez, nightmare in quality control and costing.

there are certain things that I can understand them changing, yet there are others I don't.

worst prints yet have come from teefury... those things are bullet proof (as in huge amounts of ink) and the sizing is always whacked, either too big or too small. but mainly it's their cheap shitty inks, I can't be bothered to buy from them.

threadless has always had quality prints techniques, besides the color changes and sizing issues.

I just got mine. I think the whole thing was printed simulated process, not just the supposed-to-be-foil-gradient. There are dots everywhere. It was a stupid way to print all the other colours. I still think it looks good but they've really made some mistakes. You'll probably think it looks worse, because you know how you imgined it to look in your head. I'm sure most people would be happy with it if they never knew that these mistakes were made, but overall it's kind of disappointing. I can imagine it looking a lot better.

thats kinda weird if its simulated process cuz on the product page it says "8-color screen print" :/

Maybe, I don't know enough about printing I guess. There's something wrong with the colours though, they don't look the way they should on other t-shirts.

My only Threadless Sim Process shirt is Slides (which I bought cos I'm in it!)

I won't lie - the photos look crappy.

no i think john is right. i'd dare say the whole thing is sim process. spot colours wouldn't look that bad.

it looks like one of those blankets you order with your picture from the one hour photo at the drug store for 50 bucks...

Yeah I've seen a couple sim process shirts. This definitely appears to be all printed sim process.

i think that's just what it looks like when you print on dark shirts sometines. it doesn't look sim processed to me, it just looks like you can see the texture of the shirt through the paint. that's all. it's not like it was printed with plastisols, right? that shit is thick.
ginetteginette
   ginetteginette on Jun 15 '09 at 7:29am
also: that doesn't look at all bad to me.

   d3d on Jun 15 '09 at 7:45am
thanks, but it's not shirt texture. i guess the photo isn't great but it's actually a grid of tiny circular holes.
ginetteginette
   ginetteginette on Jun 15 '09 at 7:56am
in that case, that's really weird because it's definitely one colour, dunno why they'd choose to halftone it.
