and these two subs were copied .i just saw them last night in one shop here in china. i was really surprised.maybe threadless can not do something about it.since china's the no.1 for rip offs. fake abercrombie and hollister is everywhere here.nothing's been changed with all the designs.there are 2 more design subs, but i just couldn't remember the title. too bad, i was not able to take photos.

You can't stop China from doing anything. I was there for a summer once. I got food poisoning every single day.

there's more of them than there are of us.

ask spires about "property rights" in this context ;)

I saw more people wearing Threadless in Singapore as well...
However, the colour of some of the Tees are actually different.
I think there's some ripping off here too...

i totally would too! i went to thailand last year and saw sooo many rip off designs! the sucky part is that people would buy tons of them and bring them back to their home country to sell for more profit!

GAHHHH! its irritating!
stingerstyler
   stingerstyler on Jul 13 '06 at 12:20pm
yeah, plus that there is a person somewhere who calls himself a "designer" who is copying other people's work. while he knows it as well. the bastard!

This is why there should be a somewhat complex watermarking system developed that allows people to see an image without allowing it to just be pilfered, though that wouldn't stop them from simply redesigning it. Sigh.

so even designs not printed aren't safe?

(takes a minute to check for double negatives in above sentence.....okay)

Wow.....that sucks. I was recently looking at a myspace shop of rip-offs from "Thai designers" that I'm sure is well known around here.

Holy shit they even have the guts to create a myspace account and post "their designs" there... assuming that these ppl are the same as the graphic playground fuckers.

(see my blog for the links to those accounts)

There's got to be some legal protection against this. A simple copyright is not good enough. Is there an international copyright?

I know that international law is a tricky subject when dealing with music and royalties. it's probably just as tricky when dealing with art.
OlliRudi

a lot of eastern countries have a very relaxed stance on international copyright law. i actually find it quite refreshing as a counterbalance to the current overzealous nazi stance on copyrights in america. i understand why people would get pissed that their stuff is pirated, but at the same time i know i'd get a kick out of seeing something i designed being bootlegged in the streets of thailand.

on a quick survey i see that the people who think this is a cool thing or an honour of some kind happen to be people who have never put the time and effort into producing something to sub themselves.

hi! about two months ago i buy two shirts one was Love Me Hairdo by Jonas Verheijden and the other was Glueniverse by Mauro Gatti the shirts have a bit different things like the draw from the beatles print on front centered on a white shirt not in a corner of the shirt, and glueniverse printed on a black t-shirt and more bigger than the original art posted here... i think i was buying original threadless shirts in fact the guy from the shop told me that, yes it was original shirts but buyed appart from threadless... i don't know where it cames from, till today that i get my account for buying some shirts i love from this shop and notice that the brand of the shirts i have is Graphic Playground a Thailand trademark , here is more info about some desings i think they could be stealed from the community http://tuffshop.net/catalog/index.php?manufacturers_id=17&osCsid=20970c91a4c8eb6efeca9a69c8bac5e7

i bought communist party and Funkalicious from a guy on ebay. They're on graphic playground t shirts and came from thailand. He's selling other stuff that i recognise from the site. you want his trading name, gimmie a shout. I had no idea they were from this site, and a search on the net led me to this blog and this site, which i'll now do all my buying from!

i was just in a shop in the middle of canberra and saw these Graphic Playground tees. they had about 5 threadless designs there, and there's more if you search Graphic Playground on ebay too. i asked the guy in the shop if he realised their stock was all bootlegged and told him about threadless. he didn't seem very apologetic but he did at least seem surprised.

The internet is double edged. On one hand you get great sites like this and the abilty to send your ideas and designs around the world. But on the other hand some guy can log on steal some designs and start bootlegging them.

The shop Polly Magoo's on Whyte Avenue here in Edmonton (Alberta, Canada) sells "Graphic Playground" shirts here, too - all threadless designs with little to absolutely no variation.
