Hey guys,
I have a very important, yet hard to answer question.

I have so many good ideas for shirts but i have one problem.

I have no idea how to make them. I cant vector. At all.

Any suggestions on how i can get started?
Tutorials, tips, ANYTHING? How do you guys do it?

Thanks a lot,
Jeanie

hire an artist. put up your idea and if someone likes it enough to draw it for you you can split the prize.

I suggest downloading CorelDraw12 (or buying it). Others will almost indefinately suggest Adobe Illustrator.CS2 That's your first step towards vector drawings.

go on the internet and find tutorials.... there are usually several on their homepage. you could also save up and buy a book from the store.

Practice practice practice. I practically taught myself just by messing about.

Teskos Tip: With vectors, try to make an alphabet . 'A' will be a son of a bitch but by the time you get to 'Z' you will be quite proficient.

Tesko:

So i just go to illustrator, get the pen tool, and just draw the alphabet? From my head or trace something?

Just from your head, dont worry how crude it looks. It's just an exercise to get used to the pen tool.

Yep you have it all. Its all about practice really. Luckily I have been brought up by a father who insisted on showing me how "amazing this coreldraw program" was for years, so thats how i picked it up primarily. Time has allowed me to master it. I downloaded and tried Illustrator the other day and was stumped, but gave up cos I was already too used to Coreldraw to bother with a new program.

Not really, try and do block lettering so you can fill it. Try to do the outline of an 'E'

Thats really good, honestly. You're gettin there, it's just practice practice practice. You could try tracing something now, something simple like a gold fish maybe.
staffell
   staffell on Sep 29 '05 at 6:37pm
Thats good. You can also scan sketched images in and draw round them. Or you could use photographs.

You are a natural, there isnt much else to it. If you want to add more color I suggest adding a new layer and working on that. Really impressed, you are obviously not one of the stoopid people.

Buy the quick start guide to whatever program you want to use. When I was in college we were required to buy them, they are pretty helpful if you don't know what you're doing at all.

Are you drawing in Corel or Illustrator? Just from experience, the pen tool in corel is MUCH easier for me to use.

hey tesko,

thanks alot.

just one of my ideas, i cant really find on the internet to trace.

If you feel you can. Dont forget about librarys, they are a good source of images. There is more to the pen tool but you'll work it all out for youself. Looking foward to seeing your subs!

remember you can also draw freehand and trace that if you're more comfortable with a pencil.

and if you still want tutorials, www.pixel2life.com is pretty useful for beginners of most programs.

there are astounding numbers of free tutorials I have found for photoshop, illustrator, etc.

just browsing them and reading the ones that look interesting will give you tons of useful help...it just takes awhile to plow through the sheer amount of them to get good stuff
