I posted about this in the videogame thread, but I think it warrants a blog of its own. Basically, Tim Schafer of Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango and Full Throttle fame, alongside Ron Gilbert, of Monkey Island fame, last night pitched a kickstarter project to make a brand new point-n-click adventure game much like the old LucasArts classics, using modern technology.

Long story short, they asked for $400,000 in 34 days, and they raised that in little over 8 hours. At the time of writing, they're already well on track to double that, and likely to raise in excess of. $1,000,000. This is extremely exciting for me, not least for being such a fan of the point n click genre, but also because it's being funded directly through kickstarter, it cuts out publishers, and therefore a ridiculous mark up pricing. This could be HUGE for the future of gaming and entertainment in general.

Here is the donation page, if you want to donate and watch the progress.

I've played Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max and Full Throttle all the way through a million times each. I love those games. I donated some cash to this. Can't wait to see the new game!

Honestly, this is like my lifelong dream of a game. I hope they don't fuck it up.

I don't remember, but you had to put the hamster in the freezer in DOTT to send him forward through time, so something must have thawed him out.

It is absolutely insane what happened at Kickstarter these last couple of days.

You then had to put the sweater in the tumble dryer in the past, put all the quarters in so that when you went forward in the future it was shrunk enough to put on the hamster and warm him up after thawing him out.

hahha, oh god I can't believe i remember that

He's such a creative and funny guy. If I had money to donate I would, because i'd love to see the video diaries as they are released. I'm so happy this has been successful.

This is really important to the videogaming industry. I don't think it'll drastically change anything, but it's a really important example of how a game can be made without the middle man.
