This probably isn't the place to post something like this, but I'm sorry. This angers me so, partially because I cannot do anything about it, and partially because our government so very poorly at times.
I have nowhere else to rant about this, so I might as well write this all down where someone might actually find this worth reading.
It pisses me off how FEMA is handling the Katrina situation. People are dying because of the way the government is being run. Is this right? .... No.
I've read a couple articles about how FEMA has disapproved of multiple services offering help and salvation to its sufferers. A service started by a band(forget the name, sorry guys) got fed up with how FEMA kept rejecting and dissapproving of help, so they went down without permission set up phone access so that people could contact their families, and the red cross came back with the response of, "They can use the pay phones, we don't need your help."
FEMA also reported that they didn't know people were in the superdome after TWO DAYS of it being on all news stations. Come on, this is disgraceful.

Dont be sorry. It's called protocol, and government. Shit happens, and nobody could have predicted what happened..And the people at Fema are human, bound to make mistakes. Just know, they didn't do it on purpose. Incompitence is bliss? Or something.

the idea of the levees breaking and new orleans totally flooding

(the city is under sea level and shaped like a freaking bowl)

is not a new one, scientists have been saying for years, a big storm is going to come and the levees will fail. I dont think something like this can be blamed completely on the federal government.

especially when you find out LA state officials have stock piled supplies meant for Katrina victims piled up in their houses for themselves and or to sell; not to mention LA owes FEMA 30 million dollars after being indicted last year bc federal grants given to LA to be used to buy out properties or elevate flood-prone houses and other levee related projects is missing and or wasnt spent properly.

and with the phone situation i know that one phone company was giving away free cell phones to victims at the astrodome shelter and katrina victims were given debit cards with up to $2000 on them.

i dont think the government just doesnt want to spend money, Lousianna has a history of "mishandling" funds, and with all this money being donated im sure theyre trying to make sure every cent is accounted for and that it gets spent for the right reasons.

i doubt FEMA is completely free of guilt, but it's not the only one that screwed up or could have done a better job.

i think the saddest part about this whole mess is that people are willing to shell out all this cash for people who practically had nothing before the storm and now are probably being treated better than they have their whole lives, yet people arent even willing to help the poor people in their own cities.

all I have to say is freedom fries. these twats in government mobilize to change the name of fries but can't mobilize to deploy the national guard, aid and support services in the the face of a devastating hurrican that they had adequate warning about.

it's a failure of all aspects of government; state, local & federal. It's not just the democrats or the republicans, they're all assholes and they've duped America into believing they have an actual agenda. like I give a fuck about them deliberating about some show trial nomination of a supreme court justice, it's not like he wasn't going to be a ppointed, why waste or money and time, focus on a real issue. the best part is our federal government will now spend millions of $$$ on investigations as to why this failure occurred in the wake of katrina. they'll release a huge 10,000 page document that no one will read. 40 years ago they did it the right way, did they forget what the fuck a hurricane is or did they just not want to believe it was there, out of site out of mind.

finally, GW has a hard job, it's hard work and he's working hard people of America, he needs another vacation, lets send him to iraq.

agreed on the investigations being a waste of money

"Democratic critics said the preparations for Rita seemed to exceed those for Katrina, and called anew for an independent panel to investigate why. "

things like that make me weep for america.

Hmmm we werent prepared the first time, let's not screw up twice...do we really need to waste time and money on figuring that out?
