I've always thought that medio victim was one of the best threadless t-shits...brilliant idea...excellent design and execution...the clear illustration of a simple yet powerful idea...I mean, of fact that while the media are the sine qua non of contemporary democracies, they are a double edged sword. They control the flow of nearly all information while at the same time are biased towards the status quo, which makes them to some degree reactionary (hence the hostility towards the young intellectual who personifies an alternative lifestyle and is thus seen as a threat)....so why on earth is no one buying this? even now that it's on sale? I just don't get it...and I think this demands a serious discussion...well, maybe not so serious :)....but nevertheless, some some sort of discussion...something...anyone ?? Am i the only one (I am aware that judging by how this is selling, I may indeed be the only one)...

I made a very similar post a few months back. Seemed like everyone was baffled why it wasn't sold out them. Definitely one of the better Threadless shirts.

Haven't had any problem myself wearing it to school.

It may be the most clever thing ever, but I just don't think it looks good.

I second the first part of that statement....

while your logic is in the right place, and it is making a simple, yet elegant statement. The simple fact of the matter is, most people don't buy t-shirts to make political statements, they buy t-shirts because they look cool(while the statement is a bonus to the look on some occasions). To me, personally, I will never think a white t-shirt looks good no matter how good the design. This is because I know the design will soon be complimented with various mustard, ketchup, wine and other forms of food stains.

soo people will buy and wear t-shits with a man hanging himself from a tree...or a girl blowing her brains out...or of jc being a streaker, but a shirt that critizes the media is "too political" for threadless customers...i dunno...i don't think so...it really seems to be the color issue, as you and various other people have said...i guess that makes some sense (I'm not a white t-shirt fan myself)...

It seems from the blogs that the vast majority of the Threadless community is now more interested in things that corporate pop culture deems fresh. It just seems that no one on here (with some exceptions) wants to think too hard about anything that's not on TRL. Reference if you will the blogs about "what shoes do you wear" in which I pose the phrase "I wear ones that aren't made by little children in third world countries" to no replies. It's selectively ignored like so many of the things in this world that aren't in cute packaging with flagrant branding.

People will buy shirts with people hanging themselves because it lets them pretend that they're being different or rebellious in some way, you know, like those bands they watch who do the same thing and stick it to the man. Without realizing that those same bands are making the "man" filthy rich in record sales.

I personally don't buy the shirt because I'm waiting for Threadless to switch off FTL shirts before I buy any more mens tees. Fruit of the Loom uses shops in sixteen different countries around the world in what you would call "less than ethical" conditions. I thought for sure I heard skaw say something about Threadless sewing their own shirts, but that was months ago and there haven't been any updates.

I didn't like the shirt color options.

Mr domino: thanks for your thoughtful response...that being said, given that this is a website about buying t-shirts, it's no surprise that the topics of conversation are generally consumeristic (which is not necessarily a bad thing, because this blog is certainly the appropriate place for such discussions). So yeah, most people are not interested in engaging in thoughtful "political" discussions, but that is probably simply because this is not that type of blog....In terms of the sweatshop issue....In broad terms I agree with you...which is why I've recently called for AA t-shirts, but that doesn't seem like it's going to happen any time soon...also if people don't engage in certain discussions, it may just be because they don't want to be reminded of certain things...for example, I myself am aware of the sweatshop issue, but choose to buy the FoTL t-shirts, so at times i may be reluctant to discuss that...btw, did you post a comment in that "shoes" blog about black dot shoes or whatever they are called? 'cause let me tell you, the idea is good, but the shoes are incredibly expensive...

utofu: i myself am not a white t-shirt fan as I said before, but now that I think about it, I can't see this shirt working on any other color...

LuisDaniel, I bought this t-shirt for the exact reasons you speak of. I too found it odd that it didn't sell as well as other tees, but in the end, I honestly doubt it was due to the general threadless community nott understanding the depth of the design. I actually believe that most people do not have the care or the courage to wear such a tee because of the responsiblities that acompany wearing it (the responsibility being that one must be openly vocal about the media when questioned). I welcome this challenge.

i bought it despite the colour because it is indeed one of the best designs here. i think Don't Shoot the Messenger is also selling way too slow.

I bought it for the design more than the colors. Good messages deserve pimping.

I think all the colors are pretty ugly, I like the design though. There is just other shirts higher on my list.

I love this tee, and I own it. Never really wear it though, because of the goddamn Fruit of the Loom fit.

Sometimes it works well under a hoodie or button-up though.

And, about the no weapons on shirts: it's a rule at my school, and nobody has enforced it when I wore this shirt. A lot of people don't even notice that there are weapons, at first glance.

ive heard this shirt sucks...like quality. thin and stuff. i was gonna buy it, but never got around to it, then heard that - basically, it was the only shirt the person complained about the quality of...so...just figured id skip it til it comes to a diff color

Myself, I am turned off by this t-shirt because I find it an exceedingly naive political statement. As I read this shirt, the media victim is making his livelihood off the people he's reaching through those knives and guns. Taking the victim stance in the face of that utilitarian using thing is just lame, to me. So, I wouldn't want to wear this around.
