Uh...anyone know how to make a thumbnail 4kb without altering the 100 x 70 requirement and without using a file name other than gif. I can't get it. My file I'm trying to submit is 68kb for some reason. I've tried everything. oh and I'm using photoshop. Help please

Dunno what version of Photoshop you're using, but pull down "File > Export for Web". Reduce the number of colors in the gif to something like 64 or so, then save it. It should be small enough.

Or if you can put it somewhere on the web and give me the URL I can fix it for you and give it back. For reals.

if he tries the save for web trick, hes going to lose a shit load of res going from 68kb to 4kb.

well, does it really matter? It's only the thumbnail

There you go. It's at a nice, low 2.20KB

There is a bit of a loss in res but it's hardly noticeable.

Wow thanks! Could you tell me once more how you did that, so that I'll know what to do for my next submission?

Sure, I just went into: image>mode>Indexed Color

When you do this, it will ask you if you want to flatten the layers. Click yes, but make sure you've finalized everything before doing this, as you won't be able to mess with layers once they are flattened. If they've already been flattened, it won't ask you. Another prompt will appear and where it says "Colors" next to a blank field, put in something like 50 or 60 to bring down the file size, then click okay. Click okay on any other prompts that might appear, then save it. To check and see if you are under 4KB, you can just go into file>open and go to the file you just saved. Hover the cursor over it and it will tell you the file size. If there's anything else you need help with, let me know!

Great! I really appreciate it. I tried fiddling with the index color but I didn't know you could do what you were describing. Thanks

Yeah, so anyway, I posted that and then went and watched "V for Vendetta". Glad I could get someone else to do it! :)

Not sure what tankdoneone would have suggested. There's no way to make a file smaller without losing some color depth, resolution, or both. The trick is to not reduce it to the point where the average eye can notice the difference.
