I've always been one of those stoic PC users, the sort of person who rolls their eyes when those hip young kids start raving about Apple and Macbooks and how easy and inventive and unlikely to get viruses they are. I'd only ever used a Mac perhaps twice, and found the whole experience most confusing.
And then, yesterday, I had to edit a poster at uni, on a desktop Mac. And a friend who is familiar with Apple came with me. I was doing my usual 'Grr, I don't understand the layout of this computer' thing. And then. He showed me. The button that makes all the windows go all little, so you can select which one you want to have up. And with that, a press of F3, I was sold. And then I got all excited about the Dashboard button, and the button that brings up the programs you've got open. I had to download a font to use on the poster, and I was getting worried about how to install it, but then it just appeared with a button saying 'Install this font.' No Control Panel! Gadzooks! And now I'm eyeing my HP Pavilion (a source of woe if ever there was one, it's currently out of service because the charger broke (or the port, I'm not sure), and you can't get parts for it in Australia) with suspicion and dreaming Macbook-y dreams. Oh dear.
