about SOS
i'm nuts about this shirt, but at the same time find a huge issue with it. the image shouldn't be restricted to a rectangle in front of the shirt, rather, it might be a lot more effective if it wrapped around, or at least covered the front, leaving no white edges on the sides and at the bottom. these edges give it a really constrained, contained feel to it, whereas the image provokes a feeling of vast, lonely, sprawling space. maybe i'm overthinking it, but i know i'd be more likely to buy this shirt if the overall design was planned out differently.

I usually agree with what you're sayin', but I totally dig this tee.

I think the effect is cool and all..by why would anyone make a shirt about creamed chipped beef? That stuff is just foul.

not overthinking it at all.

that was the reaction i had as well.

(in fact i almost laughed at how

poorly the design was handled.)

I agree about the white edges.

I won't buy any white shirts no matter what, though, so the edges are a moot point. It's a shame, I love all the shades of blue. But white ruins it... I've bought other white shirts because they're awesome, and I never wear them. Bah!

I think if they'd matched the bottom navy blue in a shirt and then blended out the rest of the print it would look totally awesome.

same reason why I'm not buying :(

i agree about the edges, but i still need this shirt. it's gorgeous.

I totally agree. The design is absolutely beautiful, but on the shirt it just looks like some iron-on stuff you bought at a street fair. Poor execution.

I also don't think you're overthinking it at all, this design could have been awesome but the boxiness ruins it for me

I had the same thought.

I agree; but as cristinaish said, it would look good as just a print.

I shook my head when I saw how the put the design on the shirt. It should be the whole shirt. At least it will make a v nice print.

I agree with you very much. I saw the design and immediately loved it... the cringed at the white. Gr!

Oh well.

I am kind of baffled as to why they didn't put this on a shirt that matches the blue on the bottom/have him tweak it so the blue matched one of their blue shirts. It could have at least gone partially around the back. Sure it'd be a plain white shirt from the back but who cares.

Yeah the white is too stark. Even if the shirt had been one on of the shades of blue in the print, that would have been an improvement. Even better had the print wrapped the whole way around.

I agree that the way this is put together is a shame. They took an interesting design and made it look like no more than a picture slapped onto a t-shirt. It makes me not want to buy the shirt, which sucks because it's a really neat design. But if they ever make it into a print, I'll totally get one.

it's how the designer wanted it to look, and i think it's great just like it is!

I find the rectangle to be really stylish. It's a different look than you usually see on Threadless, I find the complexity of most of the shirts sold to be less 'fashion' and more 'illustration on clothing'. The graphic composition is really striking and quite fresh.

I personally like the layout. The sharp edges and contrast frame the design well. I like that it doesn't seem too overdone... the beautiful thing about the shirt is its simplicity and the sharp white edges contribute towards that.

I completely agree, I think the design should take up the whole front of the shirt. sssbbb said the edges and contrast frame it but I don't think there should be a frame. I think it should feel like the valley continues on and on and should draw you in, not just stop suddenly.

i too think the white edges kinda ruin it. i don't like the framing action.

Perhaps you're reading it wrong. I think it was not the intention to show a vast, sprawling space. The mountains are shaped into a V like a deep ravine. Maybe there are people putting out the SOS call because they are trapped. The boundaries contributes to this sense of confinement. It suggests we can feel claustrophobic even out in the open. Or perhaps it is the landscape itself putting out the SOS as it is slowly encroached upon by urban development. Perhaps the cool colour scheme suggests snow and ice and the shrinking of mountain snow cover and glaciers.

I also dislike the boxiness. When I saw the thumbnail of this shirt, I was excited, but I really don't like it and how boxy it is. It would make a very cool print though.
