does anyone else in the world know about the chameleons? way good new wave-ish band. also, i recommend the clean, who are not new wave and are, in fact a new zealand indie rock band. check it.

I've got back into The Doors recently. Every few years I remember how brilliant they are and have a Doors binge. Also found out the Aphex Twin is actually a musical genius, if you look beyond his more commercial singles. Druqks is a masterpiece and the Selected Ambient Works albums are the sort of music you could listen to forever. Sort of like the ambient noise you might hear whilst drifting across the universe in run down spaceship.
facebreaker
facebreaker on Feb 06 '08 at 7:19am
i definitely agree with aphex twin. the doors, on the other hand... eh, i don't know; i don't suppose i ever gave them enough of a listen. i should check them out more extensively.

a lil' black sabbath anyone? since we're talking about bands from the golden age (60s & 70s) which, in my opinion were probably some of the best times for music. period.

within the past yr. or two i've gotten into a lot of the old 60's psychedelic stuff. bands like love, 13th floor elevators, roky erickson and stuff like that.

If I'm brutally honest, I think I like the Doors because I identify with Jim Morrison's Jesus complex

troy from mastodon is ordained and actually officiated my friend's wedding. and one the other mastodon dudes whose name i can't remember is a totally nice guy who comes to my favorite bar with his adorable kid like once a week.
facebreaker
facebreaker on Feb 06 '08 at 3:23pm
it's funny because he gets all embarrassed if there is a mastodon song playing on the jukebox while he's there.

=O, where do you live?
Scootman
Scootman on Feb 06 '08 at 3:25pm
baroness is pretty sweet. i've just recently got into them too. if you get a chance check out the artwork their lead singer does. he did the art for their newest album (can't remember the name) his name is john dyer baizley and he's one of the baddest ass illustrators out there right now.

and yes, mastodon is the shit as well. i read something about them being very inspired by TooL because they toured with them over in europe last yr. sorry, i can talk forever about music.

opeth also rules. i'm pretty much a metalhead. a lot of stoner rock thrown in there too.

you guys listen to witchcraft or the sword?
Scootman
Scootman on Feb 06 '08 at 3:27pm
facebreaker, i only speak for myself, but i'm insanely jealous that you've actually got to meet anyone from mastodon

=O gotta check that artwork, i fucking love tool too, havent listened to those two, well just to the sword but about a year ago and just like 3 songs, what about burst? it's sort of the swedish counterpart for mastodon(sort of), their last album is just fucking awesome, they integrate hardcore/metal and some alternative rock bases, ive been expecting their next release for a while now
Scootman
Scootman on Feb 06 '08 at 3:36pm
yeah, they (metal magazines, mainly revolver) were comparing to opeth or something like that. "where the wave broke" is a sweet song. i've only listened to very little of them. yeah, the sword hasn't come out with anything new except a vinyl split with witchcraft about 3-4 mos. ago. they do a cover of immigrant song by led zeppelin...pretty decent. witchcraft is absolutely amazing. they've got the retro sound and feel to their stuff down perfectly. think black sabbath if they smoked a bit more pot and took less acid. check em out.
againstbound
   againstbound on Feb 06 '08 at 3:39pm
i will ;D, is it stoner? i love spiritual beggars, mainly their ad astra (i even named one of my designs after it), though my favorite song is throwing your life away
againstbound
   againstbound on Feb 06 '08 at 3:41pm
and opteh are just a breed apart, i dare to say they're currently the best metal band, i just dont see anyone else doing what tehy do, the uniqueness of their sound, the orchestration, aesthetic, experimentation, etc,
Scootman
Scootman on Feb 06 '08 at 3:43pm
witchcraft is TOTALLY on the stoner rock plane of existence with a lot of straight up classic rock thrown in there too. spiritual beggars are pretty awesome too. if you like spiritual beggars, one of the guys in that band (lead singer, i believe), has a new band called 'grand magus' who are also...... the shit.

and dillinger escape plan are a band to keep track of, i belive thata if there's a band tha can achive the opth status is them, their last album is just genius, i remember the first time i listened to it i sais "well, its good, at least its worth the 13 bucks" but after like the fifth listen i fullyimmersed in the fuckingawesomeness of it, i hate people thrashing them beacuse "they're not so brutal as they used to be", they're fucking excellent muscians and artists, and thatas what i mainly worry about
againstbound
   againstbound on Feb 06 '08 at 3:44pm
you mean michael amott? or am i being confused?
Scootman
Scootman on Feb 06 '08 at 3:52pm
yeah opeth are like tool, they're on their own level of quality that can barely be touched. i'm patiently awaiting '10,000 days' to come out on vinyl. i've got the rest of them except 'aenima' which is next to impossible to find. if you can find that album on vinyl, buy it and never part with it. a beat up copy that barely plays goes for like $100+ on ebay.

i have no idea what the guy's name is... all i know is he started a new band called grand magus.

dillinger's pretty decent. haven't heard their new one, but, truth be told, i like them better with the singer they have now.
