Girls and no sex killed this. But buys are so low, I don't think a better score would matter.

My expectations were so much higher for this design. The idea isn't brilliant, it's a pun, but there are plenty of puns that do well here. I thought the way I elevated it with the pop culture references and the way I designed it was enough to get a decent score and possibly a print.

Thoughts?

This has potential definitely, however rough it may be. The Andre the Giant reference is awesome. The color choices are awesome so far, too. The apricot tee is a nice touch.

Great perspective too, love this Ian

Thanks. I think I'll throw the feathers on the foreground wrestler and make him like the ultimate warrior /hulk hogan.

New version posted.
Tthere's still a long way to go, but it's getting there.

I think I'm going all the way with this one, we're talking Battle Royale. with 80's wrestling references galore. If the scene doesn't get too crowded that is.

Yeah, definitely keep that Lucha mask! That's awesome, and so are the arm bands! I would totally buy this! Especially with it being an Andre vs. Hogan nod ;)

Colored version!!

Oh man, this is just a splendid design. Awesome joke and composition even without the references. Like the version with hints of color more, brings out the wrestler personality more. The only thing missing is a busted chair on the ground or in one of their hands!
pyr4lis
pyr4lis on Dec 29 '11 at 11:32am
nice I like the color version. I don't remember the 80's wrestlers well enough to be able to identify who's who without the color to help.
ibyes
   ibyes on Dec 29 '11 at 11:56am
Thanks guys. I was leaning colored version too, that seals it.

Evan, The Rowdy Piper arm has a chair in his hand.

Whoops, missed the chair since it blended into the ropes and floor at first glance...glad you added it, um yeah :p

Almost there.

This looks really great. With a ton going on you have brought the attention in nicely. One thing:

I think the shadows on the wrestlers are a little distracting. Maybe a closer tone to the actual skin tone or rework them a little more.
murraymullet
   murraymullet on Jan 01 '12 at 9:34am
Would take the logo on the canvas out. Really does't do much and could hang it up legally.
ibyes
   ibyes on Jan 01 '12 at 9:36am
Thanks Phil.

Yeah, the shadows/highlights on the arms aren't there yet. I do
like how the hulk hogan arm looks, but the others are still rough.
I'm just trying to get that muscular arm look for all of them.

ibyes
   ibyes on Jan 01 '12 at 9:38am
about the logo. I like it, and didn't think it would be a copyright issue.
it says WAWF. Can't you parody logos?
ibyes
   ibyes on Jan 01 '12 at 12:03pm
Anyone else have thoughts on whether I can or should use the logo
on the mat?
NCowick
NCowick on Jan 01 '12 at 12:33pm
This is such an awesome concept, and I love the way you've pulled it off. Think you've already decided this, but I prefer the color version as well. I like the logo too, but don't think it will detract from the design if it's gone. Unless someone can definitively say it's not a copyright issue you might as well not risk it.
murraymullet
   murraymullet on Jan 02 '12 at 11:40pm
I think the shadows could be simpler and really just tuck into the overlaps and maybe makeout the muscles in the arm. Also think that the tones should be a little closer than they are now.

Not that i mind the logo at all I just think it could be something completely different. You don't want that to be the only thing that prevents it from printing. I loved it instantly and honestly didnt even see the WWF references until I looked at it for a while. I just don't think you need it but not to say it can't have something.

oh wow, this is incredible! colored version for sure!
use a blue hand print or a flexing arm for the mat logo, instead...
i had this idea written down but this totally blasts my initial idea out of the water!
sick illo!
:)

No need for the logo dude, people will either get this or they won't regardless of what you put in the center square.

Stop thinking so much about it and sub this fucker soooon! I can't believe I just gave you advice like that :p

ok, I will try something as an alternative for the logo or no logo at all.

@ FA - I have to make sure its perfect before I sub, but thanks for the enthusiasm. Stay tuned for the next version.

Not quite done yet with the arm shadows and highlights, but are they better? I tried to simplify them.

awesome design man
Why not just name it after the 1987 Stallone classic, Over the Top?

Also, I like the mat logo
ibyes
   ibyes on Jan 03 '12 at 1:21pm
@ [+duracell-]
Thanks, but, Over the Top doesn't really say it to me.
+ I don't think you can use a title that has a copyright like a movie title.

I posted a version without the WAWF logo. It definitely needs something there, I just have to figure out what.
[+duracell-]
[+duracell-] on Jan 03 '12 at 1:28pm
Ibyes, your opinion is wrong unfortunately.
Also, The Great Escape is a movie and a printed tee on here.
If you don't believe me, or have questions about your mat logo, just ask threadless. They will tell you.

   ibyes on Jan 03 '12 at 1:45pm
That's cool, it's good to know you can use titles like that. But it's still not the right title for this design.

Not a style I'm typically a fan of but how can I not appreciate all those hands?! That alone makes this a yes.

New version posted with AWF logo. Better?
ibyes
   ibyes on Jan 04 '12 at 12:02am
New version, now with Supa Fly Snuka instead of Luchadore.

As much as I love the Luchadore on the ropes, it was bothering me that it was the only arm that wasn't a real wrestler reference. So I decided to replace it with a Jimmy Super fly Snuka arm.
murraymullet
   murraymullet on Jan 04 '12 at 5:21am
Looking much better. I still vote no logo on the mat. This solves the copyright problems but I don't think it does anything for the piece.

Actually glad you replaced the luchador mask. It was funny but distracting. Now he is much more fitting.

Thanks Phil, I appreciate all your feedback. As far as the logo, it just feels empty in the middle when nothing is there.

Final, A OR B?

I am leaning B, the only difference between the two is how I treated the background.

A!

Just one thing: The masked one doesn't have shadows ;)
