Is it bad etiquette to ask someone to vote/comment on your submission when commenting/voting on another member's design?

I thought so. To be fair I did it once, but only because I saw that person had also done it. So I will never do it again. Thanks!

What about a critique? Is that any different?

yes. I could never bring myself to do it, even if it wasn't frowned upon... I don't do it even in critiques, although there it's more or less accepted as ok. I just feel if I tack on 'now look at mine please' at the end of my comment, it comes off as if I'm not interested in the piece I'm looking at, but only in self-promotion. And that really takes any possible meaning out of my comment.

in critiques it's kinda ok because there aren't that many people that even visit the critique section, so sometimes you just get zero response if you don't pimp it around a bit. As I said, I still can't really bring myself to do it.

I feel like it is more acceptable in a crit too, I just wanted others opinions. I feel like if i have tried to be helpful to someone then i can ask them to return the favor.
