I am traveling abroad to London, Paris and Milan starting next Monday. I am in the middle of packing right now, and am only allowed to bring so much because it is with my college program. It's also with the fashion design major, so my entire wardrobe cannot consist of my fav Threadless shirts and couple pairs of jeans.
The majority of my stay (4wks) will be in London. Can anyone suggest good things to pack for the weather in July and early August? Not just clothes, either. Anything to pack.

Also great, cheap places to eat and shop? Any knock off markets?

I'm in Ireland and it's miserable here, and from watching Big Brother, it looks like it's a bit miserable in London or wherever it's situated too.

/awesome advice

miserable....meaning rainy and windy and gross?

sirensrising on Jun 20 '07 at 7:32pm
It's rainy and windy and gross over here, but from my avid watching of BB it just looks not-completely-sunny-and-summery over there, I can't make any in-depth judgement because of all the editing ;)

You could get 30ºC plus, you could get rain/wind etc. It's probably more likely to be warmish, but be prepared.

kiLLyou
kiLLyou on Jun 20 '07 at 8:01pm
there are a lot but don't expect anything fancy if you are looking for something cheap
Phoenix4224
Phoenix4224 on Jun 20 '07 at 8:05pm
fancy? um no. im a college student, we eat at back alley dives as long as theyre clean, cheap and it doesnt give you a heartattack from grease or whatever

when you are in Paris go to cafés, bistros or brasseries instead of restaurants to save some euros. definately go to bakeries and ethnic middle eastern restaurants are usually cheaper.

kiLLyou on Jun 20 '07 at 8:10pm
whatever you do, don't eat at american fast food places in europe because you are not experiencing their culture

London is awesome for Indian food that you can get fairly cheap.

Also try fish n' chips, prawn sandwich is good.

If you are feeling super hungry in the AM, get a plate of full english, you probably wont be able to finish it.

Shop at Tesco or ASDA but preferably Tesco for inexpensive foods and hygene items.

Milan has a lot of great places to eat.

I enjoyed some of the smaller family restaurants when I was there. wow, that was over 10 years ago!

Just talk to the locals and at least TRY and speak French or Italian because they will respect you more for at least trying plus who knows, you might get a free meal!

get the tube to Cockfosters then cross the street to get to Miracles - seriously the best cafe in London. Amazingly nice food and really cheap. it's always packed.

I love when the announcer says "This train is for Cockfosters". It sounds like they're insulting everyone on it!

wtf?

1. Cockfosters

1. A termination point for the Picadilly Line tube in London.

2. A nutritious, if somewhat salty beverage designed to create excitement in the ladies. However, whilst Fosters is lager, Cockfosters is bitter!

Drink my Cockfosters!

2. cockfosters

1.A train station in london

2.A drink

3.The act of stealing young badgers from their set, bringing them home and raising them as your own.

Lets take the train to cockfosters, call in at the pub for a quick cockfosters and then, when we're cockfostered off our faces, lets cockfoster off to sherwood forrest where we can cockfoster some badgers and cockfoster to the fostercock so we can cockfoster our cockfosters..... Cockfosters.

I live fairly near london and the weather is kinda unpredictable at the moment. today it was great weather in the morning and poured with rain in the afternoon.

for food you should try fish and chips (can be good or bad depending on the place). indian food is hugely popular over here so have that too. couldn't give any siggestions for places as i don't live in london and it's been a long time since i've been.

Fish and chips in London is generally shit, unless you pay lots for good stuff. Everywhere's gonna be shit compared to my hometown, Grimsby's fish and chips though.

Brick Lane is the place for cheap curries.

There's also some great Vietnamese places, one on Kingsland Road I can recommend.

Visit stargreen.co.uk and check out the calendar for gigs whilst you're here. It's also worth checking the web pages of:

All about me

I'm pretty sure there's about 30 shirts that I want. It's just a matter of getting money together to buy them. Girls shirts should be the same price as Guys shirts. Just even that way. And it means less spending for yours truly.
