Exotic Illness

I seem to have contracted some weird shit. I've had a sore throat for a couple of weeks, but I didn't pay it any attention. But now I have fucking red spots all over my legs! And they're multiplying rapidly and spreading upwards. WTF?

I am slightly worried as you can imagine, but it's the weekend and I have some major partying to do, so I say "fuck it" till monday.

Maybe this course of action isn't the wisest. In fact, I'm quite positive that it isn't.

But I just bought a new shirt and everything.

Aaargh!

First sign of shinges is usually pain. I think if it was shingles you'd know all about it.

Have you changed your detergent or shower gel? The two things may not be connected.

Dude, get it checked out. My step dad had something like this recently - well, first it involved a bit of a fever, then he got something rash-like (but not itchy), and so my mom dragged him to the doctor's. Turned out it was really really serious (I forget what it was though), and could have been a lot worse if he hadn't gotten it checked out.

I just got home and I'm most definitely seeing a doctor tomorrow. My muscles are very very stiff and ache as soon as I move. Fuck me, this is probably quite serious.

Yeah squeege, you roll a glass on the rash. Normal spots or rash will blanch, but a meningitis rash stays red. It's a really good tip if you have a rash a flu symptoms/sore throat. Neck pain is also a good thing to look out for.

I suppose the glass test is really for septicaemia, which can go along with meningitis. It makes the whole thing more serious.

we had a big campaign in the UK a few years ago. A teenager wis miss-diagnosed and died, and a young lawyer lost her hands and feet, but survived.

I hope it's not that, and I hope you went to the doctors last night.

it's college age young adults that are most at risk. I think it's to do with the environment they live in (they made me get a vaccine at uni when I was 26!). Young children and adults can still get it though.

Sounds pretty scary, but the sooner you get treated the better.

On meningitis, as far as I know the rash often doesn't turn up til quite late in the stages, by which point you would definitely know if you had meningitis. The stiff neck and sensitivity to light are pretty good tests, I think, but they aren't common to every case of meningitis.

However, meningitis is pretty fast-acting so you wouldn't have got it two weeks ago and only just now be feeling the effects.

I think. Ha! I'm not a doctor - but you know who is? Your doctor! Best to go see him/her.

Um, nobody should probably be trying to diagnose serious medical maladies over the internet. He needs to go to a hospital, immediately. Hate to put the kibosh on this, but poor advice could actually make things worse for him if something is seriously wrong.
