Okay basically i need to write an essay on both a historical artist and a contemporary graphic designer/illustrator. i've got the former covered but need someone to write on for the latter.

i figured since this is an art-and-design-related community you guys probably know a whole bunch of cool artists i could use.

criteria:
-preferably use both graphic design and illustration in their work
-well-known and active enough that there's plenty of information, articles, examples of their work and stuff on the internet

the more suggestions the better, thanks alot for any help you can give!

H.R Giger? Boris Vellejo? Their impact is evident the moment you walk into any tattoo shop. As a former tattoo artist I found many "great" artists were basically defined by their ability to trace or interpret art by the above two.

Saul Bass is pretty well known.

I like milton glaser's simplicity

How contemporary are we talking? Like the last ten years or within the last 50?

thanks for all the suggestions so far guys, definitely some here i could use - barnbrook and chris ware are especially awesome.

melhel: by contemporary i've been told this basically means post-1960, but that's just a rough guideline.
