Why are pirates so entertaining?

Is it the funny way they talk?

Is it the way the hobble around with various appendages chopped off and replaced with sticks and sharp objects?

Is it their silly clothing and obsession with "booty?"

I dunno, but something deep inside me makes me fond of pirates. Prolly has something to do with Peter Pan and fantasy novels, but man, this shirt is so mine.

This "prolly" stage of internet language needs to recede back into Satan's urethra.

Pirates aren't 'funny', necessarily. Just awesome.

See Maddox, he's a pirate and he kicks ass.

pirates are the new ninjas just like pink is the new black. pirates are pretty much dead to me, they were cool before they were the new ninjas.

Erm, kay.

I just like this shirt, and was pondering the plight of pirates. But ya know, assumption about me's fine and dandy, too.

And as for prolly, I'm sure you'll survive somehow. S'just a way of getting the way I talk across, and you'll find me grammatically perfect in all other places but slang and the occasional typo.

So huzzah for pirates, and this reprint.

Sid Miere's new Pirate game is really fun.

Heheh, yeah.

Played a bit of it as I'm surrounded by Sid Meiers fans, and still need to check out the original somehow...

I think once this generation grows up and its facination for pirates, monkeys, ninjas and robots wain - the new ironic avatars will become business men and gas station attendants. Maybe construction workers, but don't hold your breath.

never been a big pirate fan, but I've loved robots, dinosaurs and ninjas since I was a kid. I think it's a generational thing in a way, r2d2, ninja gaiden, all that. I don't know where the love of dinosaurs came from, I suppose it's from having a whole section about them in 2nd grade causing my love. So in short, I see no problem with "scenesters" loving these things since they are things to be loved (or something). And you can call me a scenester if you want, I won't agree, but I won't be offended.

Dinosaurs and ninja turtles were my big childhood toys--and you've definately got a point, Killerrobot. I guess it's a jealousy thing, maybe, though it could seem like kind of a silly thing to do.

"Man, *I* like ninjas/robots/dinosaurs/pirates/insert adoration here-- but those guys? They only think they do."

That just strikes me as strange--just because you had an intimate childhood adoration for things doesn't mean it's impossible for others to like 'em because they become more "open to the public." And why would this destroy your like for them?

Why would someone get upset at the use of 'prolly?' That seems pretty silly. Also, saying that all scene kids like _____, ____ and ________ seems like a pretty big generalization to me. Scene kids are a bit off, but not quite as bad as those who bash them.

My 2 cents =D
