After submitting a design the other day that I had spent a long time working on, I was most disappointed to receive an email from threadless a week later saying that it had been declined.

Apparently I had followed all of the submission rules but that it had been turned down because of "poor design"??

This made me sad because firstly, it wasn't a poor design, I had spent ages working on it and felt that it deserved a chance, and secondly, I was under the impression that the whole point of threadless is that THE USERS are supposed to vote for which t-shirts they like and dislike!

Has anyone else had a submission turned down for "poor design"??

hey, maybe their taking in the advice of heaps and heaps of threadless members who complain about too many poor submissions being posted up.

Your previous subs seem to hav done quite well with voting, so im surprised youd be declined.

Just submit it again, with an e-mail saying "Let the Rabbit Eat".

You can't post the actual image in the blog. You can put it up on a photo-hosting site like photobucket.com and five us the URL you're given, here.

But yeah, I'd like to see it too.

okay that's a link to the gif of the design that I submitted for voting.

I never expected it to win or anything but I thought it was quite cool and was at least hoping to get some feedback from the threadless community! :(

Yeah, it seems decent enough to me. To be honest, I wouldn't score it all that high, but it's far better from some of the junk we've seen around here.

Maybe it was declined because it is too big? I cant see how that was declined for 'poor design', there are much worse designs in the running.
PeteyPie
PeteyPie on Aug 17 '05 at 5:42am
exactly. I don't understand it, everything was fine, the image size, file size, thumb, etc. Only 1 colour used.

The email even said that the submission itself was fine but occasionaly submissions are declined for poor design!

Some of the designs i've seen on here have been very simple and not exactly great designs!

The presentation of the demo wasn't the best. Its not imediately clear what will be on the shirt. (since it is diagonal, and cropped funny.. Also the design consists mostly of words (which the screeners probably know usually doesn't fare well here) :/ But wow, I have seen much much worse things that were accepted. If I were you I'd try again, possibly making the close-up fit without cropping and repeating

It looks much larger than 13" x 13" to me. Beyond that, the type work is terrible. The idea is not that bad, but your execution leaves much to be desired. You don't need the rectangles either.

I've seen a lot worse, I think maybe the whole presentation of it is too busy, they do say to use their template. I think if you deviate too much in the presentation it confuses the design, let it speak for itself. Try resubmitting but calm down on the 'design garnish'.

I wouldn't go as far as to say that MrDomino...

I think you're pointing out problems that aren't there.
The rectangles are obviously a symbolic link to the layout of a ping pong table - thus they are needed to round off the design.
I found the type work to be fun, easy on the eyes and, above all, appropriate to the context.

Sorry to see it turned down Pete, it would of got my $' n' 5

I can see you've given an average of 5 for 20 designs you scored. I can guess you can really like "anything" and so you throw "anything" on a shirt and tend to like it, I can also guess you dress up with anything, and do anything and say anything.

...oh and since it hasn't ran into submission, I thought I give you a score.. 0

I look through every tshirt that comes on here, and I only give 5 when i like a tshirt that is worth 5. hence the fact that out of 500 iv prbably looked at, iv only voted on 20, that deserved 5 in my opinion. That's not that many.

And the tshirt is by no means a serious piece of design, it's a fun and enjoyable idea that would probably appeal to people who like that style of tee. Thanks for the criticism's, whether helpful or not,...but it seems that most people think it should have at least made it to voting!

It was possibly called a "poor design" because of a beer reference? I don't know.

it's just very 'target' or american eagle or hollister 70's retro beer sports kinda stuff.
not bad, just not the threadless demographic.
there's one up now called 'you got served' which is a fine example of such.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago, Threadless sent me an email saying the same thing: "poor design". I´m not a fan of too many designs i´ve seen here, and I have to say this one (mine) was not the best on my stuff, but I don´t think it deserves this calification (and i saw yours and have the same opinion). I´m under the impression that trheadless is censoring shirts that they dislike, because of "ethic reasons". My design was a (mouse)hand with the central finger up, you know what i mean...
