Anyone know how UV color change looks on a shirt? I looked at the special inks pdf and it doesn't give any examples or description on its appearance. I haven't found a single product, submission, or critique to use UV color change so I'm a bit confused. What color or colors is the ink in UV?

I'm interested in UV ink as well, but I wish there was some more information about it?

photochromic ink on a t-shirt

This was shown to me before by someone (I forget who, sorry!) when I was asking the same question as you.

this might help. from craig

(the reddish squares in the center of the inks are the tapes on the back of the swatches--ignore them)

1. Are UV inks clear/invisible when indoors? Or are they muted opaque version of the real color?
Sometimes you can see an ever so slight hint of the color when not in direct uv light. I wouldn't count on this as part of the design, because sometimes they disappear and look like maybe a clear was printed there. Sometimes it depends on which particular uv color is used, the amount of fill area and shelf life of the ink as a factor in how much it shows when not exposed. I guess the short answer would be "sometimes they show a little, but it's predictable and not really noticeable unless you're close"

2. Can you apply UV ink on top of normal inks and still see the design underneath when indoors but not when outdoors?
UV colors do not work on top of other inks.

3. Can you custom match the UV inks or are there set inks we have to use--like the GID inks? Can you show samples of the inks in the different states/settings so we can see what they look like indoors and outdoors?
UV inks come in set colors. No color matching. Cannot be tinted
4. Does the shirt color really affect the UV ink? The PDF said it works best on white, creme, and silver shirts... but what about light blue and other "light" colored shirts?
Really this ink was made for white shirts. Can be okay on a "neutral" background. Could possibly be okay on a different sooooper light shirt color, but because the ink is so transparent it can take on some of the shirt color, the "illuminated" color could be flattened or not really show up at all. Craig - this isn't recommended because it's just not what the ink was made for. The ink was made for white. If some one had an idea, it would be best to let us test it before they got their heart set on it or built a design around it. Just another fyi - the more fill area, the better the ink shows up.
