I looked back through the forum and didn't see an answer to this, so i thought i'd ask - what's the protocol on designs using trademarked characters?
I ask, because I've come up with a design that uses a recognisable figure, and I'm not sure whether I should submit it. I know there have been shirts like Dark Side of the Garden printed, I'm just curious as to how close a character can come to the real version before it doesn't stand a chance of being printed. I noticed there was a design using Waldo (or as we Brits call him, Wally) - http://threadless.com/submission/43913/Missing - would something like this get printed? Hopefully you'll get what I'm trying to ask here. Your thoughts? |

After being covered in radioactive material while attempting the break the world standing-on-one-leg record, Mike Gavin was transformed. He gained abilities he could only imagine, and now has perfect balance. I mean it, he doesn't fall over. Ever.

People like George Lucas make a fortune of producing half-arsed prequels, so he can coin it on the licensed merchandise, so why shouldn't something like Dark Side of the Garden come along & poke a lightsabre in the eye of copyright?
If there's a good amount of creative license used, yes, if it's a blatant rip off or a virtual copy, no.
