Really, we had to know capitals, and I was the best at capitals...I'm good at capitals of countries too...twas the life when school was easy...just memorization of cities.

It wouldn't let me put North Carolina where it should be!

It took me like 5 tries! It's rigged!
helo
helo on Sep 24 '06 at 3:08pm
chenonceau, yeah, I found out that hitting the F11 key

increases the viewing space on my monitor so the map

actually enlarged a little. That made it easier for me

to drop the arrow on Rhode Island and Deleware.
helo
helo on Sep 24 '06 at 3:10pm
Cactus Pirate Jr., the very tip of the red arrow has to

land in the area of the map where the state is. Otherwise

that stupid red X gets thrown onscreen.

I had it all, doing great. till i got to the east coast..... never did learn the difference between Maryland and Vermont
ofthecoast
ofthecoast on Sep 24 '06 at 3:19pm
I had to do it like 4 times before I could actually finish within the time limit.

Though I think I did alright for never having studied American geography.

I fail...I can get the border ones pretty easily, but I have no idea about the heartland. I guess that's what happens when you're a damn elitist commie northeasterner.

For balance:

Europe

Australia

Canada

(All of these from .)

Also fun:

US Capitals

European Capitals

World Capitals

European Rivers

European Flags

World Flags

(Most from here or here.)

And that's just geography. History's good to know, too. :)

Here's a hard one for Europe. You have to drag the country

onto its place on the map without any border lines already

laid out. Here's the a href="http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/country_europe_G2_drag-drop.html">test.

What does knowing imaginary political boundaries have to do with the study of Earth, human interactions with Earth, and enviroments found on Earth's lithosphere?

Hmmm?

rholliday
rholliday on Sep 24 '06 at 4:04pm
Fine BrewHaHa, it's the cultural subset of geography, not the full spectrum. For the record, those "imaginary political boundaries" end up having a large effect on how humans interact with the earth, directly or indirectly. :)

Yeah help, those do kind of help you out some, but hey, learning's fun too, right? We don't always already have the answers. :)

Representin North Carolina's Region 2 Winner for the National Geographic Geography Bee in 2000

An asian girl from region 3 beat me in the state finals...but she didn't place to go to the championship in DC, so we technically tied.

And I was on vacation the next year when they held it at the school level for placement.

And then I don't ever remember having another geography bee.
