any NYC suggestions?

I'm going to NYC Thursday night to visit my sister, and I'll be there until Wednesday evening.

I'm still looking for a few ideas about what to do. We're definitely going to the MOMA, and probably the Met as well. I'd love to go to the Museum of Natural History. Some shopping, of course, which we would probably do even if i didn't want to since she's a fashion major. We won't be doing anything supertouristy - she'd kill me if I tried to take her anywhere near Times Square - unless, of course, you count all of those museums I just listed.

I can't really think of anything else at the moment, though. Are there any cool little nooks and/or crannies that I should know about? Any really interesting exhibitions going on RIGHT now? I know my sister will have more ideas, but it can't hurt to have a few more before I get there, especially since I'll be entertaining myself for a few days.

I remember going to the Blarney Stone Pub right across the street from the Hotel Pennsylvania, adjacent to Madison Square Garden. They had really good meatloaf.

That was 19 years ago, though, so who knows. That is all my help.

Empire state building was awesome as was times square in general and I wish I could of gotten closer to the statue of liberty and walked the broklyn brdge but it just wasnt possible that time around.

I think when it comes to new york its best to get the tourist stuff out of your system then look for the awesome stuff.

I do agree with you, stubby - I guess what I should have mentioned originally is that I've already done a lot of the tourist stuff :) I'll probably go back to the Brooklyn Bridge just because I absolutely love it, but I went to the Empire State building and took one of the ferries to the Statue of Liberty on a day trip with my family when I was seven, so I'm not going to feel like I'm missing anything :)

I've been to NYC... three or four times, previously. This is the first time I'll have time to do anything other than that, haha.

Yeah, for me going to NYC was kind of a big deal but I was only there for two full days so it wasnt really long enough.

I like going to soho. its cool as long as you dont need to eat there, prices are outrageous. but its fun because of all the galleries in the area that you can wonder in and out of.

go to the UCB theater. great cheap (sometimes free) improv/sketch comedy

Serendipity is good for amazingly huge desserts... the famous frozen hot chocolate is well worth it, but you'd have to share.

Rickshaw Dumplings in Chelsea is a good place for dumplings that aren't chock-full of MSG. If you'd rather the thrill of 5 dumplings for $1, there are a couple stops in Chinatown for that.

outside Chinatown: Saint's Alp

Lower East Side and Greenwich Village are good neighborhoods to check out... And see what movies are playing in limited release around town, there are bound to be a few that won't make it out to you.

I seriously am scared of my sister's roommate. Like... they've been fighting/hating each other for almost a year, and the girl's nuts. She's smeared shit on the faucet handles a couple of times. I should take some gloves along.

I'm definitely going to Central Park... actually, I might do that on one of my free days, because I am most definitely taking along a film camera and that would be a great place to just wander around and snap some shots :)

hmmmm go to madison square park and get a hot dog at teh shake shack , also its very pretty

wander teh eastvillage and the lower east side, in fact wander everywhere

go to columbus circle at night and go to teh 4th floor of teh time warner center teh view is really nice.

washington square park is fun if only for the street performers

but in all honesty just walking around is teh best thing in teh city you always see something new and everywhere is great for taking pictures
