...when people not only post comments such as "nope!' or "this sucks" or "ewwww, gross" on someone else's submission, but when they actually rip into the quality of the drawing etc saying that it looks like children could do a better job and so on, and then, when you link through to their profile, they haven't submitted anything, or what they HAVE submitted is a gajillion times worse than what they've just been verbally dismantling.

hahahahahaha, you people are hilarity in a bottle.

At least bottlesandcans had talent. he was rude but he had talent.

it's called constructive criticism... it's be amazing if instead of just yelling "POOOOOO! looks like POOOO!" you'd consider what it is you really dislike about the submission and write that down. Have i made that clear enough you little high school stuck-up-you-own-asses twits? still feeling high and mighty oh kings and queens of the internet that you are?

no offense or anything, i just get sick of seeing a decent submission - nothing amazing, but nothing uber crap either, with a whole heap of stupid petty comments made by power-tripping 15 year olds who have yet to prove any artistic talent on their behalf.

much love, Luci

While I agree with you on the fact that if you don't like something you shouldn't be making comments like "You suck! This drawing is a piece of crap!"

Whether or not one has actually submitted something or can draw/design onself has little to do with being able to critique or to know what the characteristics of a good drawing or design are.

Critics of any sort will very rarely also be involved in making what they are critiqueing; film critics, food critics, etc.

I cannot sing Soprano to save my life, but I sure as hell know when they are sharp or breathy, because I know how to listen to an analyze music.

Comments like "POO" speak a lot for (the lack of) someone's level of intelligence and maturity, but have little to do with whether or not they can design or draw.

I agree on both counts!

On another topic...what's with all the talented New Zealanders around here?! I've yet to run into another Australian though...

I'm aussie and I just signed up. I wouldn't say I'm talented though...looks like the kiwis have cornered the market on that. :)

Hello anyway!

haha, yeah, new zealand's pretty sweet - and today was a scorcher for a winter's day - i was in a singlet and skirt lying in the sun all morning - it was great

and i do appreciate that there are a lot of people who are criticizing work on this website (and everywhere else) who although they aren't "designers" or at all artistically inclined still feel like they have the right to say whatever they wanna, which is fair enough, free speech and all - and just the fact that they're living breathing internet brats gives them the right to give their opinion on absolutely everything. And yes, as the people who'll most likely become the owners of t-shirts with the winning designs on them, they definately have the right to say something.

I just think that they should limit it to giving the person a score and saying whether they'd buy it - i mean, that's a pretty large contribution anyway. if they really feel like they can somehow truly contribute to a design by helping the designer work on improving it then they most certainly should contribute.

I'm just sick of seeing wankers "putting in their two cents" with a total lack of respect to the person who created the work. they're not paying my wages or teaching me anything at all so i, and everyone else here, shouldn't have to put up with the irreverent bullshit being spouted by so many of the people here. that's all.

Wow, I just realized how many typos I had in that last comment.

And yeah, I didn't mean to undermine the idea that the people who post comments like, "You suck, your art sucks!" aren't jerks and completely unhelpful little asses, but again, that's an intelligence and maturity thing more than anything else.

mm, agreed. but rah, that was just a rant i've been needing to get off of my chest - there's no way you can tell the little shits what little shits they are if they don't have anything for me to go look at and criticize as a return favour... ha, so i have to rant here anyway.

so why the move to NZ if i'm allowed to ask? i mean it's a great place and all, just a little removed from everywhere else in the world.

I've never in my life been interested in traveling to Europe or Japan or any of those places people usually seem to want to travel, but I have always wanted to see New Zealand and Australia. So, lucky me, I found a program through CCUSA which helps people out of high school, taking a break from college, after graduating, etc. obtain a worker's visa to live and work in New Zealand and/or Australia for about a year. So, I'll be living there for a year and I think I'm going to look at schools out there, while I'm there, as well.

I also have a friend who lives an hour outside Wellington and will be going to Unhiversity there in the Spring, so it's a good reason to see her.

Rad - Wellington's a great place, awesome drum and bass scene, awesome night life in general, awesome PLACE in general. just windy...

Not sure what Vic is like - i go to Otago in the south and it's ok. loads of rugbyheads but that's fully tolerable.
