if you join the Navy and end up without any tattoos then tattoos likely are not for you.

40+ years on this earth and zero tats who else is in the zero tat club?.... it don't count if you want one but your mom won't let you get one btw...just saying.

inspired by this on wired today.. bleh..

i get what this girl is trying to do ... respect her dad's service in Vietnam but the Vietnam service ribbon on this tat bugs me since she wasn't there.. meh

I have no tattoos.

I can appreciate that some look good, but I can't ever be certain that something I like now, I will still like years down the line - it's like an item of clothing you can never change.

I have none. They're permanent and it bothers me that I'll probably hate them eventually. They'll look shit if you get really fat or wrinkly, but on the other hand you'll look shit anyway if you get fat or wrinkly. And I can't help but think that 20 years ago, getting some cliche like a celtic armband or butterfly tramp stamp put you at the height of tattoo sophistication and you looked really cool for a couple of years until everyone did it and it became incredibly unfashionable and lame. You really can't say "Oh but I got this lame tattoo before they were lame" you're just stuck with it. So I fear that even if I got something really cool now, it would be lame one day. You're probably best going with the really retro stuff like swallows, anchors, "Mom" hearts, that kind of super retro ironic cliche stuff whic is so dated it's self aware.

I heard about this biodegradable ink that'll break down and disappear after 20 years or something. I don't know if it's for real or just internet bullshit, but if it is real that interests me.

If I got the tattoo I wanted when I was 18, id still have a Black Flag logo (4 bars) on my calf. Thought it was cool at the time but would be pretty embarrassing now. I don't mind them on others, its just not for me.

Scars on the other hand.. they will always be cool.

I have zero tats. I don't want any tats either, but I love the artwork of several of the Japanese tattoo artists like Horiyoshi III. The Japanese tattoo art form really is incredible when you see the work of several of the most famous tattoo artists.

one of the many beauties of tattoos is that the one who has them can be the only one in the world who knows that they have them.

If I ever get tattoos, they'll most likely be words or drawings with very thin lines and ink that's light enough to not notice right away (if that's even possible).

its never too late and the sentiment rarely fades...the experiences i've read about when people are unhappy about their tattoo, after seeing a picture of what they were getting removed, i already agreed they'd made a mistake. it was heinous.

i don't really understand the point of getting a tattoo that no one will see. if it has some deep, personal meaning, isn't there a better way to represent that than permanent ink on your body?
[+duracell-]
[+duracell-] on Feb 08 '12 at 1:44pm
..and if it has such a deep meaning then why do you need a reminder on your skin.

when you phrase it like that, you make it sound like you are right about something. as if getting tattoos is wrong or something.

no one is trying to start an argument. we just simply don't understand. i welcome your explanation on why you got a tattoo of whatever you got rather than something else.

we?

well that's the thing i guess, if ya get one, ya don't ever really feel the need to brag about it. that's not why i got the ones I have at least.

the one on my shoulder is to remind me of the things i often forget.

the one on my arm/shoulder is to honor my family.

No tattoos here, although I kinda sorta want one and even have something in mind. I'm too noncommittal and would most likely want it lasered off within a few weeks. And I've known too many people who've gone through that painful process to make me steer clear.

less than a year ago and i could have joined this, but i got one in March last year. It's small, personal, not very fancy and on my ribs so considering how infrequently I'm in a bikini it's really not that visible unless I decide to show someone. it's mine and i like it, although it could be done a bit better so one day when i have a job I'll spend the money to get it cleaned up a bit. i don't regret it yet and I hope I never do.

i do totally get why people don't want one though and I don't think I'd ever get one somewhere where it's on show a lot of the time like my arm or my shoulder blade - i got it for me, not for everyone else.

there's no point in arguing with those who ask what the point getting one no one can see, or if it's so personal why do i need a reminder - some people are tattoo people, some people aren't, those people aren't - nobody needs to justify why they're one or the other.
