I want you to sound off and tell me what the trend is for fashion in your town city or state. I know that it is different all around the world so i thought i wouuld ask all of you what is hot in your area. And if you hate the trend all the better!!!!!!!!!

Here in Missouri it's just shorts and flip-flops. Though, I went to London a couple of months ago and saw TONS of dudes wearing capris. It may not be unusual there, but I was a bit thrown off by it. Also, I'm assuming that it might be the next big trend here, because apparently our fashion comes from there. Just, that we get it here in the middle of the United States AFTER it's already dead in other places. Kind of like UGZ (or however you spell it).

Chicago?

Well, there are shirts that have 'fcuk' (spelled just like that) which are becoming popular.

Then there are tight, dressy looking shirts for guys with the collars up. They look uncomfortable.

For girls, there are no particular trends, but shaded glasses are very common.

Then there is the 'urban punk' look. Pins, studs, leather, and things that have been dragged from the 80s. I can't wait to see what they will do once the temperature rises.

Trends or not, I wear what is comfortable.

i have seen guys around here in cali dress in the male capris but i feel they should be left alone capris are for girls....but the GAP trend is going that way. we finally left the uhg look alone thank goodness. we have the lame urban punks sporting the stupid 80s and 70s bands. not to knock them or anything i am a punk rocker but punk is a music not a fashion statement. as far as sunglasses its the j lo lookin ones or the huge bug eye lookin things. we have the "emo" dress here or so they call it. i dislike it when people use the word emo to describe something especially clothes because clothes arent emotional.

I totally agree with Harmsway.

p.s. Yeah, there were MILLIONS of FCUK shirts in London when I was there. It stands for French Connection United Kindom. Meh.

hahahaaaa, i try to stay away from trend but i mean i dress to the occasion i have suits, laid back clothes, concert style clothes and such but you will never catch me dressing only a certain way. I know a lot of you are like that out there. this site is awesome because it offers diversity in clothing although they are just t shirts they are not really in style. although i might have to take that comment back

The trend up here that makes me want to vomit, is Lululemon. All the stuff that was in the $5 bin a few years ago are being sold for insane amounts of money - it's everywhere. Fancy sweatpants & leisure suits. Blarf!

If you want to know the next trend in the US & Canada, just visit Europe. What's 'in' there, will be 'in' here in the next 2-5 years.

"you will never catch me dressing only a certain way."

I agree. I don't like to have one style. I get bored easily.

As for trends...my town is pretty diverse. A lot of kids are, mostly girls, are wearing that high-fashion punk style, kinda like Ashlee Simpson. Scene kids are wearing their usuals, which is spreading like wild fire. A lot of giant J.Lo glasses are poppin' up everywhere. A lot of guys nowadays look like they shop at Abercrombie, with the collars popped up, which looks stupid. Hip-hop kids are wearing the baggy clothes and bling.

I feel stupid for stereotyping. Sorry.

HarvestMoon on Jun 18 '05 at 3:56am
I usually wear my own thing: striped casual pants (like the ones in my photos) or my olive shorts with a tank or tese.

Most guys wear polo tops or ribbed "wife beaters" with long cargo shorts. And girls wear hoochie shorts and the tight spegetti strap tanks.

The "designer product" girls here, steal trends from Europe,

...while the authentic American originated trends are copied by Japan (and their desperate need to dye thier hair blonde and eat apple pie)
AlecGrieco
AlecGrieco on Jun 18 '05 at 11:45am
one thing i dont like about trends is how celebrities/big companie ruin them.

about 2 years ago lacoste and le tigre started heavely marketing their polos agian after a 20 year slump, this was right after thrift stores came more into play and kids like me were getting Izods for $1.49. Im not saying thrift store aficionados started the "trend", but rather revived it from the 70s/80s and then hollywood copied it

Girls:

hahaha. kudos. same here.

i wear umm kinda tight shirts. i have to wear medium.. if i wear large it looks like i'm one of those kids in a linkin park shirts one size too large. i'm 6'4" so the medium is on the tight side. as for the shirts itself it's usually a band shirt. i like my murder by death shirt.. design is awesome. and i usually wear either levis straight legs or cargo shorts.

I'll try to mix what I've seen on Long Island and in New York City--

Girls:

Peasant skirts, "pregnant lady" tops, these slippers that look like the sandals you wear in the water, track jackets, tight pants

Guys:

Khaki shorts, tight tees, track jackets, tong-type sandals, lighter-colored button-ups, basic polo shirts
Chopster
Chopster on Jun 18 '05 at 8:40pm
Girls:

anything tight and skimpy...brazillian low cut pants that start like six inches bellow the navel, any and all surf brand stuff, thick bottomed slippers.

Guys:

mostly surf shorts or jeans, t-shirts or wife beaters, slippers.

My friend who just came back from Spain has said that manprees (capris for men) are pretty big there, and that the trends in Spain are usually mirrored in the US months later.
Cubfan
Cubfan on Jun 18 '05 at 10:16pm
what happens in 'cali' doesn't necessarily spread to the rest of the states. cali falls a bit more towards the 'fruity' end of the spectrum than the rest of the US

I guarantee men's capris won't catch on in mainstream U.S. Men here are all about their masculinity, their manliness, and won't dare wear anything that might even slightly detract from this image. this aint europe.

weeeell, it's winter in new zealand so the going trend in my city - one with a huge percentage of students - is to wear all of your clothes at once.

the thermal underwear look is big, as is the hoodies, scarves, sunglasses and tight jeans for girls, same for boys but with baggy jeans. personally, i'ma fan of the "hahaha, i'm so much warmer than you" look.

sigh, i want it to be summer. or for exams to be over so i can go snowboarding.

"one with a huge percentage of students - is to wear all of your clothes at once."

Yeah, I kind of like that look. I hate summer because I'm forced to wear as little as possible to stay cool (shirt and shorts), and I'm used to putting on a lot of clothes. In the winter, I'll usually wear a jacket with a hoodie underneath, with some sort of head covering. People say I look homeless.

Where I am its guys in pastel graffiti printed polo shirts with the collar up, graffiti printed trucker caps, graffiti printed jeans and various name brand shoes. Ugh.

The whole emo/indie/skater thing is in right now too, so I see plenty of teens walking down the street in black/red/grey with badly dyed hair.

I feel like the only sane/fashionable person in this town.

Many girls in my Southern Cali city of Garden Grove are really into the layering effect. Tehre are also alot of Eom kids at my school. The guys wear girl pants and everyone has hair that hangs in front of their eyes! Wel..I don't. Just the emo people. Oh, and contrary to what the show The O.C. might suggest, Garden Grove is not just a bunch of Asian Gangters!!!!!

girls - tiny denim skirts, spaghetti strap tops or pregnant people shirts, flip flops, and those tie-bolero things that are like bikini tops with sleeves. lots and lots and lots of lesportsac bags

boys- the same things they've been wearing for the past 4 years...
Harmsway
Harmsway on Jun 19 '05 at 2:59pm
in cali its the long skater shaggy style hair with trucker caps

also right now its really popular to have gothic clothes but not be gothic as well as punk. But for girls the layered look is completely in and the guys looks of sagging pants and a pair of shorts and then your undies are shown

GreenEggs on Jun 21 '05 at 1:34pm
Here in NJ is becoming common practice for guys to wear girls' shades, which is cool, in my opinion. Also, tight "dress" shirts are coming back in, which is good news, atleast we're not in the whole "it's clean to look dirty" phase any more

FCUK is the worst fashion ever. Seriously, it's so fucking tired over here. I hate it.

I do have a denim FCUK satchel, though. That's pretty cool because it is a little more subtle.

A few of the plain french connection clothes are nice this year. They have some hott polos.

Ahem.

oh god, i hate the grease. you stink. yes, pheromones are cool, but bathe, just use unscented soap and the chicks will still dig you. p.s.tighpants, you're killing off your precious moneyshot fluids, and raising the risk of cancer in the boys. but, no, you go right ahead....

I go for jeans and tees mainly, there are some fashion kids but there are a hell of a lot of the style shown below

http://www.newcastlestuff.com/charver/masterclass.html

it's newcastle rather than sunderland but its only 20 min up the road, its all a bit grim and has spread round the UK like wildfire the past couple of years and people down south are trying to claim it as their own disease for some godawful reason. Thankfully i havent had the misfortune to witness it in scotland on any of my trips home but i dont doubt its up there.

Cubfan:

I'm guessing you are a Chicagoan too?

"I guarantee men's capris won't catch on in mainstream U.S. Men here are all about their masculinity, their manliness, and won't dare wear anything that might even slightly detract from this image."

While this may apply to a large population of the men in Chicago, the other half are actually throwing this away.

I've seen some fairly unmanly clothing on guys lately. I'd hate to use the word 'metro', but thats the stereotype that pops up in my head.

And as for our 'fruity' factor, I've seen a large increase in gay couples walking around downtown.
