Does it bug anyone else that the stereotypical 50's housewife icon has tattoos and piercings? I'm not offended in any way, shape or form by tattoos/piercings in general, I just think it kind of ruins the effect by making her look too modern. Like, this isn't a Lichtenstein comic gal.. this is a retro hipster dressed like one.. it's a bit smug. I don't know, I can't decide whether to buy it or not for this reason :)

She's also shooting a big gun-- also not part of that stereotype. I'm not really sure I understand what you're saying.

Hmm... I reread it, and I think I get it now. But it doesn't bother me at all-- I think it just adds a bit of the artist's own style.

No, I mean, the gun does fit the time frame, it is kind of like a gangster tommy gun, and it is ironic in the violence.. femme fatale style, y'know?

Niagara style.

The piercings/tattoos just seem a bit anachronistic, is all i'm saying

I love it & bought it the other day. I see no reason why the peircings & tattoos would bother you. It's not supposed to be a Lichtenstein copy... it's supposed to be a nod in hommage to the great art he produced. It's awesome and modern. Suck it up and buy one... once they're gone you'll probably regret not snagging one when you had the chance.

do you have a better suggestion of how to create something new out of something 'old'? i think the updated figure represents modern woman quite well.

thanks bachway.

jennarito got it right. i was thinking rockabilly/psychobilly when i drew her. the real question is where did a modern girl get a tommygun?

This shirt is awesome!! I just saw the Lichtenstein homage first when it was in voting stages, then when it became a shirt I saw the tatts and piercings and I loved it even more. Buy it. (ps Niagara rocks too)

rockabilly is a bad thing now? you kids and your dumbness.
d3d
   d3d on Oct 13 '06 at 10:42pm
the rockabilly was my twist. if she'd just been a normal girl it might as well have just been a pure lichtenstien knockoff. plus in my experience pierced and tattooed girls make for messier breakups.

"condescending much, olli? try to reign in it, for the sake of internet civility :)"

Say dumb shit and people WILL be condescending to you.

Would you prefer if this was a direct Lichtenstein rip off? God forbid a artist put their on spin on something.
indigoglass
indigoglass on Oct 14 '06 at 6:38pm
Well well well. God forbid I posit my opinion to the conversational forum, innocently enough asking others' opinions... no, you're right, I'm just a stupid person who can't appreciate irony.

There, see! Wasn't that fun?
mrs. squid
mrs. squid on Oct 14 '06 at 6:51pm
You're allowed your opinion, just like I'm allowed to think your opinion is stupid. I never said anything about irony. I just asked if you prefer if this was a direct rip off. I think you need to lighten up, this is the internet no one is going to baby your feelings.

i wish she was on another format, not ont a shirt = /, because i like to see the print much more on a flat surface with this design than on a shirt. I have boobs, and they deform most shrit prints haha..
