Warning to those who enjoy citrus:

A few days ago I developed a small sore on my tongue. I ignored it assuming it would heal itself in time, but it’s only gotten worse since then, and is now impairing my ability to eat or even speak comfortably.

I told my boyfriend about this, who said the same thing happened to him in high school. He waited until there were red/white sores covering all of his tongue, then went to a doctor who prescribed penicillin, which did nothing. When the sores got worse, he went to a second doctor who said that this all began because he was eating too much citrus. The citrus foods killed the natural bacteria that live on the tongue, and in order to grow them back you have to consume dairy products to encourage the bacteria growth.

Now, since tangerine season began a few weeks ago, I’ve been eating on average 4-6 of them a day as snacks, so I assume that’s where my tongue sore came from. Today I’m devoting most of my energy to drinking milk and eating yogurt, and hopefully I’ll have a happy family of bacteria living on my tongue soon.

I just hope there isn’t a similar condition that results from consuming too much dairy. I’ll let you know if there is.

i drink soy milk.

does that work? i betetr not take any chances, so i'll just stick to one citrus-ish thign a day.

except i put a whole package fo sour skittles in my mouth the other day. it started bleeding and stinging.

that happened to be a few years ago when my daily diet consisted of a couple catrons of orange jiuce, frosted mini-wheats cereal with no milk, and many, many oranges (bad time, bad state of mind... meh)

it wasnt too bad, though.... one popped up on the back part of the top of my mouth (soft palate?).... i spazzed out, and my stepmom promptly told me it was because of too much citrus. since she reads a lot of books about health stuff, i stopped eating certain things for a while, and i was fine.

Oh, and exohexover, soy beans used to be one of my favorite snacks, but I recently read that too much soy causes thyroid cancer. (And that's it's just the evil soy industry that pretends it's healthy.)

In fact, one of my co-workers takes medication for a bad thyroid- I asked and she said her mother fed her soy milk when she was a baby.

I also know someone who tried to eat a stick of butter in exchange for twenty bucks.

shit, i could and would do that. i've also drunk tabasco for beer. it's not so bad, the beer totally makes up for it, and gets rid of the tabasconess.

Tobasco's pretty gross, but I had a roommate that ate a chunk of wasabi. She puked after, and didn't even get money or beer in return. I don't think anyone dared her, come to think of it.

I love wasabi. Tastes like horseradish. Which I love.

my dad had cancer of the thyroid, cause they irradiated his tonsils when he was a kid to get rid of them.

I've had a very similar thing happen to me just recently. Went to the doctor and he said I had thrush! (and I thought it was a vd!?!?)

Prescribed me some anti-fungil lozenges and now it's slowly going away
