so guys, i should be getting an adorable shnooksy little girl kitten in a few weeks. i have never had a cat before (am more of a dog person). but i know she will be the feistiest, awesomest, smartest little thing evar. at the moment, i think the one i will get is black and white.

so, i have these ideas for names:
tanooki
neko
chibi
pickle

what do you think i should call her?

and, any advice for first-time kitten moms?

i was thinking more like "tanooki suit" from mario, instead of "tanuki, mythical racoon-dog with huge balls". but you sure do have a point there, chellz...

aw Pickle! I love that name for pets, when I get a pug, his name is either going to be Pickle, David Bowie, or Falcore.

im more of a dog person too but one time i found this cat that kept coming up to my front porch, and i looked for a name tag and all that but i guess people dont really put them on their cats, so i bought pumpernickel (thats what i named it) a soft cushy bed and some cool scratchy toys and omg, cats are soooo relaxing while youre going to sleep...

anyways, a couple days later, some jackass kids saw me playing with pumpernickel outside and were all like, heyyyyy thats our cat, and they came over and snagged my little pumpernickel and gave me a mean and nasty look...and then i cried for about a week

And congrats btw taz! Owning a cat is amazing! I've always been a "dog" person as well but my little boy is so super affectionate and sweet I can't imagine life without him.

I sorta prefer real people names for pets, like Peter and Fredrick.

Or names of people I hate so next time I see them I can be all "Oh hey thats my cat's name. Zing!"

we named our cat gizmo.. I thought it was quite original, but it seems that a billion cats are called gizmo..
just choose something with an o or i at the end, its much easier to yell and they seem to listen to such stuff easier..
I also would advise you to get this water spray thing and just spray a little bit of water as soon as the cat tries to climb the curtains, tries to eat some flours or tries to sratch at the furniture.. with our cats that work so well that they now run away every time the see the water spray thing..

ooh...

there was once I picked up a kitten and we kept him... but we didn't know how to sex him, so we gave him a very unisex name "J"... which I figured could be "Jay/Jae" if its a boy and "Jade" if it's a girl...

turned out to be a boy... so we called him... Jae...

Tanooki is really cute though...

sigh... I'd love a cat in my life right now..

trindli spraying water works wonders.

i just shake the water sprayerer bottle now when Tilly (my kitty) does something naughty and she does this cute little facial expression (like she's expecting water) and then runs off.

but on a new note. buy your kitty a selection of toys. buy a small ball, a stick with feathers and maybe soemthing else.

in my experience every cat likes different toys better or worse. if you buy more then one fo a toy and it doesnt get essited by those, then you will have wasted money.

introduce the toys individually and if you like in seperate parts of the room/house and maybe one new one each day.

my new kitty (she's less than a year still) loves balls.. she's bats them around like she's this little soccer player, it's sooooo adorable, whereas my last cat didn't bat an eyelid at balls. so just test the water.

also remember when you get your kitty that it's having lots of new experiences so the first couple of days it may be tuckered out with jsut essploring and it may not want to play heaps. donut worry, once it feels safe and starts to get to know your home it will be a ball of energy!

also stuff like ktitens need their sleep. as adorable as they look, even angelic, whilst asleep leave them be. they're growing lots so they need their sleep.

there's heaps of other pointers i can give if you like, but i dont want to be condescending.. you may already know this, or the breeder/owner may have told you some stuff.

hey Taz - i'm in Jozi!! :-)
I'm a huge kitty fan! I just recently got a creamy lil ginger boy that i called Woody coz he blends in with the wooden floor and I live in an area called Norwood. I really like the name Pickle.
If i had a black and white cat i'd maybe call her Yinyang or Emo LOL but you'll probably find you'll end up calling her lots of different names. Lil Woody currently has 6 - Baby Cat (unoriginal) Pumpkin, Spider-cat, Lil Man, Pepito and Stinkerbelle.

hey candice! i am sure i ate at some or other restaurant in norwood a few times (when i stayed in dunkeld), and went to a few pretentious art galleries there too. while in jozi i mostly lived in linden. your kitty sounds cuuuute :)

I guess I was just too proud... or too STUPID to admit it to myself until now... but taz-pie*... I love you. there! I said it! I LOVE YOU, okay?! haha. wow, what a load off! I feel so... so FREE! so giddy with childlike delight that I could just... I don't know... climb a mountain or something! or... or paint a masterpiece! or sit down in a Pizza Hut for 45 minutes and order the lunch buffet all by myself!

so there you have it. sorry I had to lay all of this on you at once, but it just feels right, you know? for the first time in my life. I don't know what you're going to do with this information, but it's out there now. at least it's out there.
