I think threadless violated some kinds of contest rules. cause it's not a contest.. if they j ust pick there favorite..
they've done away with democracy.. and darwinisms...
it's not survivial of the fittest.. or the majority that wins..
and i think that sad.

His idea is brilliant as was his illustration style in this design.

Learn how to become a good loser, looks like you'll be doing it a lot.

I didn't really say anything bad blu, just an opinion.

spowag1: read the rules again - "if it is among the top scoring shirts, it may be chosen to be printed". Just because the shirt scores high, it doesn't mean it'll automatically get printed, there are things like how many people said they'd buy the shirt, and personal preference that come into play.
blucow
blucow on Jun 28 '05 at 8:16am
I know you didn't say anything mean, I never said you did, but you're pretty much stating that yours deserves to be printed and travis' doesn't.

Travis has gotten looked over tons of times, his designs are brilliant, he was completely deserving of this win, more deserving than most users on the site.

True, but I almost think he has better submission out there than this one. And I don't care that i didn't win, i was just pointing out the score difference, which i know doesn't matter (i don't even know why i put it there now)

Threadless is not the sole judge in the "Love" contests.

Although your Goodbye Amazon was an interesting design and scored quite well, the shirt travis designed had more of a future feel to it. As you can see from all the winners, they all have a sort of future feel to them. Wired just seemed to want the designs that showed that concept. Goodbye Amazon to me didn't feel futuristic, it could have happened yesterday, today or tomorrow. So that's my 2 cents.

well thanks bortwein, yeah ... i agree with yah there, i think i'm gonna resubmit it on another color shit... hm

Aw Shucks, you got me. =3

I think everyone fell a little more in love after Robot Derby Girl, I just fell a lot harder.

EddieA, I hope you do resubmit, because your shirt is great, and I'd wear it. That being said, I agree with Bortwein, your shirt didn't quite fit the futuristic theme as well as the others chosen.

duh.
i know the rules. i've read the all the pages. i was just making a point, that no one else seems to notice around here.
....and i've been a member longer than you blucow.

His shirt is better than yours, ain't no score in the world that's gonna change that. Your scribbly shirt just wouldn't work with the theme man.

I happen to think "In The Shadow Of" is perfect. Doesn't matter who made it. The design is just tighter than hell (and by 'tight' I mean graphic design speaking, not 'thats tight dog').

WIRED had a hand in chosing them. looking at it now, i know it won't sell too hot here, because it's purpose was for the next fest...and well, wired liked it.

Haha, I agree with blucow though. Travis has the goods, and it's about time he got some recognition for it. Remember as well that the "I'd Buy it" votes have a large bearing on printability.

Ummm the score means shit. It's all about the design and his is better.

Nothing against your shirt but i'd be more likely to buy the shirt Travis designed as a matter of personal choice and there were other judges involved and I cant imagine them wanting to choose a negative view of the future. Also, just because you got a higher score this seems to be nothing more than a rough guide at best for Threadless to follow, also, we have no idea how many id buys were slapped on either shirt.

little_hobbit_feet on Jun 28 '05 at 3:18pm
That was my thought, too.
When you're doing the Loves conetsts, you're more or less designing for a customer, and with a technological customer like Wired, the liklihood of them choosing a fatalistic/ecological view of the future (unless it was nature and technology living in harmony, maybe) is slight.
HOWEVER, you still are in the Threadless running, right? And like you said, your shirt scored high and had a lot of people commenting favouribly on it. So it could still get picked.

i think some of you are being too hard on eddy :P mostly i think would be based on the "i'd buy it" rather than score. im not a big fan of "in the shadow of" but i can definately see how it won. its marketable, and fits a commercial brief. next obviously dont want to depict a horrible future. while i think your design is actually really cool, i can see why in the shadow of got printed.

Eddie--

Don't feel too bad. My favorite design on Threadless was by Travis. It got a monster score and still wasn't printed.

I too was dissapointed with the winners there were many which i thought which i think are better than the ones that were chosen unfortunately i wasn't judging, was especially sad not to see ian leino's 'the longer commute' in there.
and on the subject of +/- what exactly is positive about someone being crushed to death by the future?
travis76
   travis76 on Jun 29 '05 at 10:18am
...or overwhelmed...
Trashcan
Trashcan on Jun 29 '05 at 10:25am
i'm glad you agree, waht is positive about being overwhelmed by a future we should be shaping ourselves?
travis76
   travis76 on Jun 29 '05 at 10:31am
it was more about the awe for the size/span/overwhelmingness of the future...good or bad....but complain away.
