ok, how does google figure out it's numbers?

you know, when you start typing something in, and it gives suggestions? and next to the suggestions, it gives some long ass number. prolly of related sites, or whatever?
'cos if you type "gorge", two of the top three are:
Gorge Washington...and
Gorge Washington Carver

google uses yahoo to find how many sites there are, then they post the numbers

It's also that the Gorge ampitheatre in Washington confuses Google. But yeah, probably some misspellings in there too.
