So I've always been really scared of the sea and I felt like whatever design I did for this subject it would be a bit over dramatic and creepy, probably just cos my imagination makes all these creatures worse than really are.
I decided to design a towel after feeling that these large gradient geometric shapes would look most effective on that interesting surface a towel usually has.
It started as just one elaborate sea creature, but As I worked more I realised that this would work perfectly as a nod to Ernst Heckle, obviously with my own take on the illustration style and my own personal touch with colour; I kept thinking about those glow in the dark super creepy fish that swim around in the pitch black, so I designed the colours to reflect that. So yeah, this is my nod to those nature illustrators from centuries ago who used to be the only real way newly discovered creatures we're documented, they were pretty awesome illustrators, especially with the symmetrical amazing layouts they gave them.
Anyway, I hope all that makes sense, and I hope you enjoy your towel! Cheers x
