canceromega
canceromega on Jan 15 '09 at 8:39pm
Out of curiosity, where do you get your yarn from?
chelly
chelly on Jan 15 '09 at 8:41pm
usually just walmart because

1. they aren't religious

2. they aren't expensive

3. they aren't snooty

but mostly because they carry brands that are easy to work with

or they did

until they stopped

now i don't know what i'll do
canceromega
canceromega on Jan 15 '09 at 8:43pm
Awww, I'll cross my fingers in hopes you'll be able to find some inexpensive, un-snooty yarn again! I'm thinking about taking up crocheting because I need a hobby at college to keep me from going insane. :P

There's religious yarn places?
chelly
chelly on Jan 15 '09 at 8:46pm
canceromega - crochet makes me insane haha, but yes pick it up so we can swap war stories

nomadslim - thank you! sometimes i wonder if it is worth keeping track of everything. i'm taking a bit of a break right now, but maybe i'll come up w/ even more good stuff.

avalanche lily - my sister just asked for one of those, they are difficult imo. also, hobby lobby is christian.
canceromega
canceromega on Jan 15 '09 at 8:48pm
I'm sure I'll have a heck of a time trying to get started, but at least I'll be picking up something new and be doing something worthwhile with my time! :)
chelly
chelly on Jan 15 '09 at 8:49pm
well nicke, you should probably have an idea. like, if you just said "make it awesome" i probably wouldn't do it. but if you said "i like pointy ears an nap-time eyes and the color light blue" or even sent me a sketch idea, that might happen.
chelly
chelly on Jan 15 '09 at 8:54pm
canceromega - yah! and if you can find someone to show you in person it won't be hard at all. i just used a book and it took me forever. but you could use vidoes on the interweb too.
canceromega
canceromega on Jan 15 '09 at 8:57pm
Thanks! I may bother you by email on occasion if I have any pressing questions, if that's alright with you, of course.

irocko, that's awesome (i do wonder if it has to be a specific count for each color for it to match up correctly though)

woah, something happened in this blog when i went to bed.

i'll answer you all when the little guy sleeps this evening.
chelly
chelly on Jan 16 '09 at 8:37pm
lily - that would require patterns which i dunno how to follow, but there are a lot of threadless folk who know how to make them so ask around

wardrobe - sounds good to me

mr walrus - i was just thinking that each of the kitties would make an awesome hat, but if i had the yarn and time (and permission) it would also make a crazy scarf

kelsi - gotta get jubs permission and which one are you liking best? i just finished a beanie that color and could probably try to make one.

bhumi- i'm not sure what part of that design would turn into a hat/scarf, but the colors are nice

chipmnk - he is, in another dimension (this statement also works w/o a comma)

AUBS - I LOVE YOU! thank you so much! it has been a while since i got more pics and it always makes my day. yay snow!

so i've got idea #2 for you, could you do a penguin style hat? it could be mainly black with a little white showing on the front forhead area for its belly, maybe ear flaps to represent the wings and then add on some eyes and a beak?
jublin
   jublin on Jan 20 '09 at 1:17am
woooooah! i didn't know i was in here! i totally missed kelsi's message she sent a few days ago, but i just saw it and i give my permission! i love chelly hats! I've been NEEDing one for a while. I'm gonna figure something out and when you are free we will make a deal! i hope.

bcrider
bcrider on Jan 20 '09 at 7:59am
Chells, our Wal-Mart still has yarn, but only like two short bays of it; if you need anything, I can hook you up. Our Hobby Lobby is a great source of cheap yarn, and sometimes I get to Meijer (about 30 miles from me). Have you tried smileys online? Or Webs?
chelly
chelly on Jan 20 '09 at 6:46pm
hey lily - sketch it up! sounds like something i can make

jublin - send me ideas and i make time

tazpie - use the videos on the interweb, you can do it! it's a bunch of loops. you can be loopy, i believe in you! many exclamation marks!!!

bcrider - they still have yarn here, but almost all red heart. do you still have BERNAT SOFTEE CHUNKY? that's what i'm looking for. so far it is the best for what i do. it is kinda freaking me out that they stopped carrying it.

yay for yarny fun! :-) So is that your yarn stash in your dreams in the main post?

That sucks about Walmart shrinking their yarn stock. I've read in a few places that they are getting rid of yarn completely! You would love the local yarn shop I go to here. Completely not snooty and the whole back section of the shop is bargain yarn. I'm going to be teaching loom-knitting classes there!
chelly
chelly on Jan 20 '09 at 8:14pm
that sounds rad! the roommate's mom has a giant loom and i don't know how often she uses it. or...are you talking about looms like what you got me? either way, sounds fun.

we do have a couple other places that carry yarn, but it isn't very convenient to get to them.
