This was a crazy amalgam of all sorts of techniques.

All of the "pop-ups" were drawn out, then cut out from a piece of paper (though I did stop short from defacing a classic book), then scanned in. Yeah, it would have been quicker in Illustrator, but it just seemed like the way this one *should* be done.

Book pages and some various other elements were drawn in Illustrator.

All of the texturing and compositing was done in Photoshop with about 50 layers. The book textures are bitmap textures taken from real book covers (for a little authenticity).
