about Goldie
So I was at the mall this weekend, and saw this shirt for sale in one of the department stores:

From the composition to the color to the placement, I think it would be difficult to suggest that this WASN'T created after seeking Luke's "Goldie" design here on Threadless.

Now I might not even mention it if I saw this on some t-shirt kiosk, but this was by a major apparel label (Daniel Cremiux USA), and sold through an established retail outlet (Dillard's).

Now go forth Threadless, and apprehend these miscreants! May your hammer of justice be swift and painful!

bort you're totally right on both counts. I was really surprised when I went to their site to see how snooty they were, and Luke's is undeniably better in every way.

And thanks for the compliment harrysally it was a self-portrait for a group project, and I was really happy with how it turned out, too.

bump, that others may express their outrage, too

haha, thanks for the compliments guys...
it is kinda flattering, but i dont really feel all that angry. threadless hould be angry, they own the rights to it for use on apparel.

it is obviously taken from my design, but it is prob. just enough different that there isnt much case against them. but a strongly worded email should be sent to Daniel Cremiux about their use of plagarism. and maybe an informative email to the retailer and whether or not they should continue dealing with this company

yeah, it is still pretty much an "adaption" of my silly pet design. maybe they want to purchase my other silly pets... haha
Luke...
   Luke... on Nov 21 '06 at 1:38pm
hey wait, this does kinda make me mad, just a bit.
someone made money off of copying my silly idea, thats not fair. i didnt copy anyones idea, i wouldnt even care if it was the same idea, if only it wasnt so obviously copied from mine.

[not even my best work, it just happened to get printed, i mean i dont even ever wear the thing]

In a weird way, I'm glad to see that this is upsetting you at least a little bit, Luke... I felt really strange knowing that I was more angry about this than you were.

Now, unleash your righteous fury!

shirtflirt
shirtflirt on Nov 21 '06 at 2:18pm
also, i'd be pissed off that they bastardized it and gave it a cheezy venice beach boardwalk spray paint gloss over. yuck.
Legoman
Legoman on Nov 21 '06 at 2:19pm
have you sent this to Threadless in an official capacity? or only on the blogs?
theurbanraptor
theurbanraptor on Nov 21 '06 at 2:24pm
actually they changed it enough.

i believe its 7 changes and its yours.

1.colors
2. eyes
3. teeth
4.gills
5.splash marks by fish
6. shell instead of chest
7. fin has a notch in it.

tomburns

they straight up stole the design, then made it all crappy as hell. the original is WAY superior. id be pissed
Luke...

hahaha, shirtflirt:
"cheezy venice beach boardwalk spray paint gloss over"

and, theurbanraptor: those rules about percentage changes are a myth. if any portion is recognizeable it is plagerism. they however re-drew this and most likely i couldnt only accuse them of stealin the idea. but it is just so obvious that they took it from mine and then replaced things and omitted details.

but you know, this isnt any worse than all the subs on here that are merely google image livetraced desins.

depends really.

stock art is tehre for the taking. a person's creation is another thing entirely.

oh, thanks legoman for the compliment of wanting to buy it.
it sold out in all sizes in just over 3 weeks...and that was without a sale...
and yet they dont print any more of my designs :[
haha, they prob only printed a small stack anyway.

and the ripoff doesn't even have a waterline?
why's there a badly drawn shark in an oddly shaped vase?

this makes me mad(ish)
Luke...
   Luke... on Nov 21 '06 at 2:41pm
i suppose, there is a fuzzy line somwhere. but i just wonder how much the thief got paid for this re-draw
Luke...
   Luke... on Nov 21 '06 at 2:42pm
i meant a fuzzy line about copyright issues, not the waterline haha

oh dang. i sent this design to a belt buckle manufacturer [on their request] they didnt make anything of it, so i didnt get paid [it was the horrible spec art]
i wonder if someone took the design from them, not even knowing it was already printed on a t-shirt. haha
