Need some help - probably in illustrator?

So for a client project, I need to be able to generate audio waveforms at a print resolution for part of some packaging. Does anyone know a good way to do that? I'm guessing there's probably some way in illustrator, but my attempts so far have not been overly successfuly.

Or does anyone happen to have a source for some large images of soundwaves that are cheap/free?

do you think you would be able to just livetrace a still of a sound wave? then maybe find some free sound program that shows the sound wave and do a screen cap of it? you've probably already thought to do this... i think sound forge might show waveforms like that.

That's a good idea. All I have right now is GarageBand, and it won't zoom far enough in to the tracks to show the level of detail that I need, but I'll look into Audacity.

Ah, that seems to be doing the trick, if you crank the live trace detail up to the max. Thanks again, Julia! I'm all out of coffee, so my brain has been a little muddy this morning.
